WHY YOU NEED TO ARCH WHEN BENCHING! YES, you NEED to arch, and I don’t care whether you’re against this statement or not, because if you are.. chances are you’re mistaking the “right way to arch with the “wrong one”. Implementing an Upper Back Arch (Thoracic Extension) when bench pressing ensures 3 very important things. SAFETY: By lockig your shoulderblades back together and holding them there for the whole movement. STABLILITY. Arching your upper back creates a strong “base” or muscle. MAKE IT SWEAT. on Instagram: "Fix your RDL form.

Your form sucks if…

1. You have your head up during the whole performance.
2. You are arching your back
3. You are overstretching and coming down too far.

This will leave you with lower back pain and not the results you want.

Instead:

1. tuck your hips,
2. Keep your core tight
3. Keep your spine straight, that way your head follows down during the movement.
4. Hinge your hips back (pretend you have to close the door behind you).
5. Reach down until you feel the stretch in your glutes.

Keep practicing and record yourself to see where you are going wrong.
