"Amélie," directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, is a delectable confection of a film, a cheerful fairytale in which a charming heroine overcomes a terrible upbringing and grows up to bring happiness to the needy and joy to herself. You watch it, and then when you think about it later, you smile. Kindness is often regarded as one of those effete virtues that lack charisma and power. Nonetheless, it includes significant acts such as tiny demonstrations of affection and words of encouragement.
