The Samyang AF 85mm f1.4 FE is an auto-focus telephoto prime lens that I am using on the full frame Sony A7iii. This 85mm is a budget-friendly counter option to the Sony GM 85mm f1.4. From my experience with portrait photography, both the Samyang and Sony 85mm f1.4 lenses produce similar results.

Which Is the Best Lens for Portrait Photography?: 85mm vs 105mm vs 70-200mm | Shutterbug Photography 101, Photography Cheat Sheets, Lens For Portraits, Digital Photography Lessons, Nikon Lens, Vr Lens, Photo Gear, Best Portraits, Camera Hacks

What is the best lens for portrait photography? It's an eternal question for photographers and one that Matt Granger tries to answer in the below video where he compares shooting portraits with an 85mm lens vs a 105mm lens vs a 70-200mm lens. In the lens comparison shoot, Granger captures images with the Nikon AF-S FX Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G lens, the Nikon AF-S FX Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED lens and then the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens.

Lens comparison shootouts are always a lot of fun especially when they're primes and it's a portrait session. In the below video, photographer Jessica Kobeissi pits a 50mm F/1.2 lens against an 85mm F/1.4 lens while photographing a model using the same settings and the same locations. The lenses Kobeissi uses in the lens comparison are from Canon and they aren't cheap, but you could also use less expensive, slower lenses and still get great portrait results.
