A rather old-fashioned cover - almost victorian in style for the 1929 Guide to Spanish Railway Timetables. This book is the equivalent of the Bradshaw all-companies timetable in the UK. Interestingly the Barcelona company of travel agents, Marsans, advertised on the cover are still in business as one of Spain's largest travel agents.

Much of the 19th century transferware was born out of the aesthetic movement in the 1860s which espoused art for art's sake. Simple beauty, craftsmanship and nature were key components to this movement and many of the designs contained text along with imagery.
