This Yamaha TRX850 restomod by HB-Custom is a trellis-framed treat
The Yamaha TRX850 didn't quite set the market ablaze when it launched in the 90s, but it's gone on to develop a loyal following as a bargain buy. This resto-modded example from HB-Custom shows restraint on the part of the builder — and is all the better for it. [Image by Emayat Wahab]
A psychedelic Yamaha SR500 flat tracker by Moritz Bree
Spotted at this year's Wheels and Waves festival in Biarritz: a wonderfully made Yamaha SR500 flat tracker, built by 20-year-old Moritz Bree and captured in all of its technicolor glory by Kati Dalek. “I wanted to give her a super 70s touch,” says Moritz. “Like a bike from a 70s-style bedroom or living room. Lots of color. I’m a fan of that time; that style. I liked the Rolls-Royce of the Beatles, so it had to be funky.”
Built not bought: A custom-framed Yamaha XS400 with patented forks
Built in a 13-by-15-foot workshop in Slovakia, this scratch-built motorcycle uses a bespoke frame, a Yamaha XS400 motor, and a patented front fork. It’s been done so well, that you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for a forgotten 90s Yamaha prototype.
A screaming Yamaha RZV500R restomod from Championship Cycles
Is there a better engine configuration than a two-stroke V4? This modified Yamaha RVZ500R from Championship Cycles sports a 100+ hp engine rebuild, upgraded suspension, lighter wheels, carbon fiber bodywork, titanium exhausts, and more custom-made aluminum parts than you can shake a stick at. Going solo: A crisp Yamaha SR500 street tracker from Poland
This frosty SR500 is not only hella tidy, but it's a bit of a sleeper too. It wears KTM suspension up front, an aluminum swingarm out back, and a 540 cc kit inside. The slick paint job takes cues from Singer's custom Porsches. [Image by Jan Wodniak]
