Soldier's Daughter: Experience While Her Mom is at War - Airman to Mom
April is the month of the military child and Cathy wrote a children’s book from her daughter’s experience of being a soldier’s daughter called "Mya the Soldier’s Daughter." In 2017, Cathy deployed to Afghanistan and had her daughter stay with her sister in Canada. It was a hard year for both her daughter and her mom. They both grew through their experience and the book "Mya the Solider’s Daughter" covers some of the challenges Mya faced in the year of being separated.

My grandmother, Elaine Danforth Harmon, was one of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (“WASP”) during World War II, the first group of female pilots to fly for the United States armed forces. The WASP flew from 1942 to 1944. Thirty-eight WASP gave their lives in service to the United States of America.

Janell was interested in serving in the military and she began her journey to the military through the Civil Air Patrol program. Once she began the Civil Air Patrol, she knew she wanted to serve in the military and set her sights on attending a military academy. Initially, she wanted to attend the Air Force Academy, but as she began talking to her senator, she was encouraged to look at all the Academies. But for me military life was not a road map to fitness directly. It took time for me to find the balance.
