Last week, I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days in the Bay Area, participating in some fantastic events, including Brazil at Silicon Valley. 💥 Unsurprisingly, AI remains the "talk of the town," and has been for quite some time now. 🎯 I synthesized six initial and preliminary insights into AI, both in general and within the realm of finance. I recently had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion at South Summit Brazil 2024 titled "Thriving Together: Open Innovation Unleashed." The conversation was nothing short of provocative, challenging conventional wisdom and shedding light on the crucial gap between theoretical knowledge and practical innovation.   We delved deep into the dynamics between academia and industry, exploring how the theoretical frameworks taught in universities often fail to apply in the real world.   While research shows the average success rate for startup pilots in corporations is only 30%, Innovate-Israel data shows that when corporations use the proper tools and methodology to collaborate, the success rate rises to 70%!   The panelists shared unique insights on how to bridge this gap and harness the power of open innovation to drive meaningful change. We dissected the challenges organizations face when attempting to translate theoretical concepts into actionable strategies, emphasizing the need for collaboration, and had a heated discussion on this matter.   Collaboration is the only way for organizations to remain relevant. Thanks to the organisers of the Nature-Based Solutions Initiative (more about that soon!), I am back to the UK, joining the London Climate Action Week (LCAW) this week. We, from WRI Brasil, together with The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), are organising an event this Thursday that will focus on how Brazil could shape a new development model for the Amazon, giving special relevance to an inclusive bioeconomy, local and traditional knowledge, environmental services provided by the biome while also fostering innovation and its creative economy. We will also discuss what financial mechanisms are needed, the opportunities and the challenges that exist in the country and in the world. Brazil has now a commitment to zeroing deforestation until 2030, scientists recommend that we not only stop deforestation, but also restore the biome, in particular the Arc of Deforestation. It’s time to change course and generate a new future for this precious megadiverse forest and its incredible people. #fintechs are ruling the #venturecapital in #latinamerica — From April to June 2024, Latin American startups raised $2.2 billion in venture capital, with Brazilian companies leading by securing $1.2 billion. This represents a significant 160% increase compared to the same period last year. Notable investments include $308 million for CloudWalk Pagamentos and $125 million for Celcoin. Mexico and Argentina followed Brazil in terms of funding. Worth noting the Argentine Vercel with $250 million. Fintech startups were the most attractive, securing $1.3 billion in investments. Additionally, deep tech funding surged by 302% year-over-year. Spent the last 10 days immersed in the Brazilian startup ecosystem and I want to share my main takeaway. Brazil is data-driven. Valeu 🇧🇷 for hosting me in Web Summit Rio, and in your chaotic Sao Paulo. Innovation does not wait for perfect timing, an abundance of VC dollars, or the right company swag. This is especially true in Brazil, with its unique combination of sheer market size and the fact that it innovates to tackle its unique set of issues. - Innovation around car ownership, with people proudly dressing their cars with the Kovi brand, providing them with safety, or with their StopClub sticker, showing that they belong. - Innovation in the healthcare space, uniquely provided by Fernando Ribeiro, founder of Alinea Health. Or fighting obesity through Liti. - The joint effort between government and private organisations is democratizing access to financial services in an inclusive manner, whether through consumer apps like Nubank or the 'behind the curtain' magic provided by companies like Hyperplane. Brazil, in and of itself, is starting to behave like a startup. Recognizing that the pace of iteration and innovation will keep advancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

#English It was the school holidays when they announced (yet another) economic plan to contain #inflation in #Brazil. I watched everything and read all the newspapers because I knew the tension that price instability caused in my family. Thirty years later, we celebrate having a stable currency, the #Real, which serves as a unit of value and a medium of exchange. It seems simple, but I invite everyone to list events that illustrated their life with #hyperinflation in the comments below. I'll start by listing some personal anecdotes: 1. I went to get milk from the neighbor, who owned some cattle and distributed its products in the city. As one of the attempts to contain inflation was to freeze prices, producers did not deliver to the distributors and created a parallel market. 2. I would run around the supermarket after the price re-marker to get the products before he changed the label (sometimes I would go on roller skates). 3. I argued with the owner of the school cafeteria, who asked for more "paper" to buy the same snack I had bought the day before (how was I going to explain it to my mother later?) 4. I ran out shouting to my father when they announced the increase in fuel prices. The queue was so long that it was better to get there early. 5. I anxiously waited for my grandmother to arrive from Paraguay with the month's purchases (#Paraguay had a fixed exchange rate regime, and there were more products available than in Brazil). #planoreal #womenineconomics #macro #price #stability

I am both honoured and excited to share with you all the official launch of my company, ABIDE Consulting. Since beginning my graduate studies and teaching at the post-secondary level, I have embarked on an educational and experiential journey to understand what it means to bring human rights to life on an everyday, granular level. The average person spends one-third of their life at work - it doesn't get more "every day" than that. To me, the realization and evolution of human rights at work is not only non-negotiable but critical to the success of employees, leadership teams, and an organization's culture. By learning from field experts, such as my mentor Akinkunmi Akinnola, MBA, I have delved deeply into the inputs and outputs of EDI in the business world. I've spent countless hours learning from students (the leaders of tomorrow) what their expectations are for their future workplaces. I've developed networks with SMEs, national non-profits, and international corporations to understand where the gaps are in EDI training, policy development, and performance analytics. I am confident in my belief that EDI training, education, and conversations should not come from a place of mere compliance. This is why ABIDE is about having REAL conversations in meaningful and revolutionary ways. I will share much more about the visions my team and I have for the world of Accessibility, Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (ABIDE) very soon.
