Recruitment and Selection

Recruitment and selection for the Indian Armed Forces is a non-unified process, meaning recruitment and selection is undertaken by the branch of military service the candidate has applied to join. Although all candidates will go through the same basic steps some, for example pilots, may have additional steps to undertake.

Phase 1: Initial Military Training

Initial military training, commonly known as basic training, for members of the Indian Armed Forces is non-unified, meaning all recruits/officer cadets complete an initial training course based on their method of entry, job and branch of military service.

Basic training comes in the form of several courses, as noted below.

Phase 2: Employment Training

Once recruits/officer cadets have completed their basic training, they will transition to specialised training known as employment/environmental training.
