Poison Memories: A nail-biting and gripping mystery and suspense thriller (Detective Morgan Brookes Book 12) Kindle Edition

Wind howls against the bolted front door, but the woman can still hear footsteps approaching. He has come for her. The memory of what she did still haunts her, and she knows she deserves to die…

Arriving at High Wraith cottage,
Detective Morgan Brookes joins her horrified team, who have found a woman’s body chained and dangling from the gnarled branch of an old oak tree. It’s a race against time to preserve any evidence as heavy rain destroys the scene, but they’ve already identified the victim as a woman who once tried to kill her own family.

Twenty years ago, Margery Lancaster went to prison for poisoning her husband and infant son. They both survived, and Morgan must treat the pair as her first suspects. But before she has a chance to get to work, Margery’s ex-husband is brutally murdered, and Morgan’s heart thumps as she sees his hands tied with silver chains that match those found on Margery’s body. Then his son, now a local doctor, arrives at the station to be interviewed. Morgan watches in despair as he drops to the floor and falls into a coma.

With almost all of the forensic evidence washed away by the storm, and no family left to interview, Morgan’s last hope is tracking the two chains to a local hardware store. But the killer is already closing in on his final victim.
Is it already too late for Morgan to stop him, or will she uncover the terrible secrets this family are hiding in time to save another life?

A heart-racing, edge-of-your-seat thriller for fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Rachel McLean. Will have your heart pounding as you reach the final, breathtaking twist.

Another winner in the Detective Morgan Brookes series. The only drawback is I read them so fast I have to wait on the next installment. These books are so good and you can’t help but like Morgan and root for her at every turn. Do yourself a favor and read this series. You won’t be sorry.

Just not all that enthused about this book. As usual it is a great story but somehow the ending was a tad quick after all the build up throughout the book. This author has been so consistent and not to take anything away from this story it did not get me in like the former books. Always love the relationship with Morgan and Ben. It is such an integral part of this series.

I love how all characters interact in this series. I love Brookes aunt Ettie. Couldn't put this book down. I would have never guessed who the bad person was. Guessing game to the end. A must read. I can't wait to read the next book.

Team work. Death, mystery, vitality all in this read. A past story that leads to present sorrow and who is the killer!

Poison Memories is book 12 in the Morgan Brookes series by Helen Phifer. You can easily read this book as a standalone if you've never read a book in the series before. I love the Morgan Brookes series and look forward to a new book as soon as I finish the current book. The characters in this series are fantastic and you want to know more as you read. Morgan and her team are called to a grisly scene at High Wraith cottage. The owner of the cottage is hanging from a tree in the front yard and very dead. Who would want her dead? She went to prison for 12 years for attempting to kill her husband and son. They both survived. Margery Lancaster was a troubled soul who had been abused by her husband.

The suspect list is short in this case, the ex-husband and the son. Before Morgan and her team can interview George, the ex-husband, he's brutally murdered. His hands are tied with the same chain that Margery was hanging from. They try to locate David, the son, but he's not at work or home. When he shows up at the police station, it's a shock. He collapses to the floor and starts convulsing. He's been poisoned. So now that both suspects are down, who could be doing these things and why? This is an exciting entry into the series that will have Morgan and her team searching for answers before more murders can occur. When someone close to Morgan is in danger, the stakes are high. Can Morgan get there in time? I rate Poison Memories 4 stars with a high recommendation. #PoisonMemories

Margery Lancaster lived in an old house in the middle of nowhere. She heard sounds of an intruder in the house.

Detective Morgan Brookes of the Rydal Falls Police station receives a call of a suspicious sudden death near High Wraith Cottage, and rushes with her team to the scene. There they found a woman’s body hanging, mid-air suspended by a rope chained to an old oak tree. Heavy rain had destroyed the scene, but they were able to identify the victim.

The victim was Margery Lancaster, a woman who once tried to kill her own family.

Twenty years ago, Margery Lancaster went to prison for poisoning her husband, George and infant son, David. After she was released, she went back to the family home. Both victims survived, but were treated as initial suspects.

Then Margery’s ex-husband is brutally murdered, and his son, now a local doctor, arrives at the station to be interviewed. Morgan watches as he drops to the floor and falls into a coma.

But the killer is closing in on his final victim. With the clock ticking, Morgan must find the killer before more murders can occur.

This is a fast-paced crime thriller with intriguing characters with a plot filled with twists and turns and will have your heart pounding as you reach the final, breathtaking twist.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

I’ve been a fan since book 1, and I’ve really loved how the characters develop more each story, and the relationships continue to grow. This was another twisty story up until its conclusion, and as always, Morgan gets herself into dangerous situations. My only complaint about this one was that so much was given away just in the synopsis, I wish they would have just left it at Margerys death, and let us be surprised by how the rest played out.

I read this book in one day. Helen Phifer certainly knows how to keep her readers interested in the Detective Morgan Brooks series. Riveting.
Once again, Detective Morgan Brooks had me on the edge of my seat as she, Ben, and the team, wore themselves out trying to find the murderer of two people.
One of the victims had done a real nasty deed in her past. When she came out of prison, Marjorie moved back to her old house that held so many nasty secrets to the past. Eventually she knew that someone would come to punish her. Not only did they punish her but also her bully of an ex-husband.
Highly recommend this book and looking forward to the next book to this series.
5 * from this happy reader.

Helen is one of my favourite murder mystery authors and have read lots of her books. This story had me on tenterhooks, wondering what was coming next. It is a while since I have read a detective Morgan Brookes book and I was drawn into this one as usual. Murder was happening from the start and it was good to catch up with the other police detectives. I hope there are more books to come. Maybe Morgan will get a promotion.👍👏❤
