She kneels by her husband, his face contorted with pain. “You must get yourself to safety,” he tells her. She grips his hand tighter as a tear tracks down her drawn, pale face. “I promised to stay beside you. I will keep that vow to the end.”

Berlin, 1944. Edith Falkenstein weeps with joy when the crowds of brave women protesting on Rosenstrasse manage to save their Jewish relatives, including her husband Julius, from deportation to the camps.

Julius once believed abiding by the rules would shield him and his wife. But now he knows better: there is no such thing as mercy from the Nazis, and they must do all they can to save others. Their apartment, long stripped of its luxurious furnishings, might offer little protection from the frigid winter air, but it has become a place of secret shelter—though it puts all their lives at risk.

As bombs rain a thunder of devastation on the city and Soviet soldiers close in from the east, the Nazis have only become more desperate, and more deadly. For the inhabitants, their only option is to flee. But when another raid leaves Julius critically injured, Edith realises he is far too frail to make the perilous journey. She closes her eyes and prays for a miracle.

The final days of the war are here, but there is no cause for celebration in Berlin, where death lingers on every corner. Their love has been the source of their strength and survival all these long years, but will either of them live to see the end?

An absolutely page-turning and deeply heart-rending story of one woman’s promise to protect the people she loves. Perfect for fans of The Nightingale, The Alice Network and The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

Marion Kummerow writes historical fiction that explores the dark side of human history. A USA Today Bestselling author, she has received rave reviews from readers and critics for her novels about the German resistance during World War II. Her books feature characters who face moral dilemmas, make difficult decisions, and fight for what is right. She also infuses her stories with humor and undying love, because she believes that love is what makes the world go round.

Born and raised in Germany, Marion has lived in various countries before returning to Munich with her family. After writing several non-fiction books, she felt drawn to the past and the subject of resistance to the Nazi regime. It took her years of courage and hard work to turn the true story of her grandparents Ingeborg and Hansheinrich Kummerow into a trilogy: “Love and Resistance in the Second World War”. UNRELENTING is the first book in this series.

Bringing history to life through her books is Marion’s passion. She visits museums, travels to memorials and the locations in her books, reads original source material, and consults experts to meticulously research the historical facts and details in her novels.

Her stories are authentic and immersive, transporting readers to another time and place. She writes with the conviction that we must never forget the past, so it won’t repeat itself.

When she’s not writing or researching, Marion likes to travel, do yoga, and spend time with her family. She also enjoys reading books by other historical fiction authors.

When I open a book authored by Marion Kummerow, I never have to wonder whether I will enjoy reading it. I am an avid fan of her works and have read most of them, I believe. That does not mean that I am incapable of being critical. The fact is, she is a remarkable writer. Her books of historical fiction are always a source of learning as well as a good enjoyable story. Keep writing, Marion, and I'll keep reading.

This is book 4 and the final in this series. I did find the series interesting and well developed. I wanted to read each segment and find out what was going on with the main characters throughout. It depicted the atrocity and inhumanity of the time period realistically and developed the characters and story well. I still in all 4 found the dialogue stilted but I just passed over it a lot. A good series!

I would definitely recommend this book and the whole series. I was so sad to see it end I read the last few chapters multiple times. Marion’s books are truly delightful and have you begging for more. I’m eagerly awaiting her spinoff to this series!!

The characters in this book continue from the previous books. There are new characters introduced that add to the story. Good character development. When you are not reading you wonder what the characters are doing.

I read all four books in this series and basically enjoyed them due to my interest in WW II historical fiction. Aside from some proofreading errors I found it difficult to believe the Germans would have used terms such as "daft" or "bugger" or "bloody."

All of Marion's books are suberb. This series is very interesting in that it is about German women who married Jewish men and all the problem and heartache that caused along with their children. These German women steadfastly stood by their husband's and families and resisted as hard as they could. In some ways it is a very beautiful story.

World War II rages on across Europe and people are growing weary wondering when the horror will ever end. Edith Falkenstein is over joyed knowing that some family members are saved from being transported to the camps, including her husband Julius. But it is way too soon to let their guard down. They must still fight to survive and they can never give up hope. I loved the characters David and Roxi and it didn’t surprise me that they bravely joined the resistance. As the bombs continued to fall from the sky, their life seems to get more and more dismal. But they hang on to each other and the hope of freedom one day.

The Berlin Wife’s Vow written by author Mario Kummerow is an amazing addition to the German Wives Series. I was heart broken at the horrible conditions and the life they had to endure. This gripping story was a fast-paced story that was unputdownable. I enjoy this author’s writing style so much, she keeps me coming back for more of her stories. She intertwines stories that are entertaining, engaging and inspiring, while educating the reader on the facts of history. I love that even though it was a long time ago, there are so many lives and families that will be forever changed through all the generations to come. May we never forget. I highly recommend this wonderful story.

This was an interesting book! It had a very unique perspective of the events that happened in 1943. In a time of horror and sorrow, heroes emerged! The author's writing really made the time period come alive.

Roxi is my favorite character! She's brave, intuitive, and resourceful. Her ingenuity saved many lives. I definitely connected with many of the characters! Some of their stories were heartbreaking.

I was provided a copy of the book from Bookouture via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I absolutely loved this series about the Berlin Wives and The Berlin Wife’s Vow was a great continuation of the struggles the Berlin wives had with their Jewish husbands and half aryan children. It gives a real isight into the struggles they faced to survive, not only from the dangers of the Nazis but facing the threats from nightly bombing raids, and advancing Russian troops.
I could not put this book down and highly recommend it to other readers to get a balanced view of the suffering ordinary Germans endured during the war, especially those with Jewish family members.
I hope Marion Kummerow continues this story with other family members amid the struggles of building Germany under the Marshall plan for Europe.
