I did enjoy this book and found the mystery held my attention. ReVelations about the role of spouses in the 1920s was intriguing and elucidating.
One annoying factor was the confusion of which floor of a building, be it the house or the exhibit constructions, was being described. In Britain, the setting of the book, there is the ground floor, then the first floor, second floor etc. In the book, the second floor was mentioned, and it seemed that was the American version, which should have been the first floor in British English. A jarring confusion that spoiled the flow. Editors should catch these Ameticanisms as they ruin the flow of thought.
Otherwise, a good tale, very enjoyable and I look forward to the next book in the series. Hopefully without any Americanism s.

As noted above, the Lady Swift series is my favorite. I read cozy mysteries constantly and the Verity Bright team is the only one that I am able to completely immerse myself in without getting distracted by poor phrasing or editing errors. The characters come to life quickly. There is no time wasted describing fashions in excess, a common frustration I experience with other cozy mystery writers. Do yourself a favor. Start at book one and read the whole series in order. It will be time well spent.

Another wonderful Eleanor Swift story. I just love the brilliant assortment of characters in these stories including of course Gladstone and Tompkins. This mystery starts at the British Empire Exhibition where Eleanor witnesses a murder from a hot air balloon but when she reaches the ground the body has gone and she struggles to get anyone to believe her, including her wonderful butler Clifford and her handsome fiance Hugh. The story races along and I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.
