To mark International Women’s Day 2024, our Athora Women's Inclusion Network (AWIN) hosted an engaging Group-wide broadcast exploring this year’s theme, #InspireInclusion. The event kicked off with an update from Carolyn Gazzard on the progress of our Diversity, Equality and Inclusion strategy. Following this, our Deputy CEO Todd Solash outlined how an inclusive culture can create new opportunities for everyone. Throughout the broadcast, various initiatives across the Group were showcased. Yeon Kyung Cho representing the London AWIN chapter, discussed the achievements to date and aspirations for 2024. In Ireland, Lara Alayande highlighted recent activities led by the Dublin AWIN chapter including a recent interactive #InspireInclusion discussion with guest speaker Ciara Garvan that examined how diversity and inclusion positively impact on business. Carmela Krüger summarised volunteering activities at Athora Germany for International Women’s Day and Ken Sennewald highlighted an initiative in Bermuda that focuses on supporting female students to succeed in the (re)insurance industry. Wrapping up the event, Annemarie Mijer-Nienhuis shared updates on the acceleration of inclusiveness at Athora Netherlands and presented a video from a recent Women In Financial Services Event. Great to be in Ireland and connecting with colleagues in our Dublin office this week. The Irish team have been at the core of Athora from the get-go and, as we inch closer to the end of the year, it was good to reflect on the achievements and challenges of this year and our focus for 2024. But it wasn't all work and no play! I was pleased to join the Dublin festive party and walk the famous streets that inspired so many writers and poets. With great teams across Europe, the next chapter for Athora is going to be exciting.

Gestern waren wir Gastgeber des 4. „Politischen Dialogforums Lebensversicherung“, das im Deutschen Bundestag, in der Deutschen Parlamentarischen Gesellschaft, in Berlin stattfand. Das jährliche Treffen bringt Politiker, Aufsichtsbehörden, Wirtschaftsführer und Verbrauchergruppen zusammen, um die Herausforderungen zu erörtern, denen sich Altersvorsorge und Lebensversicherungen gegenübersehen. In diesem Jahr befasste sich das Forum mit dem Thema der kapitalgedeckten Altersvorsorge und der Debatte um das "Generationenkapital", ein Leitprojekt der deutschen Regierung. Außerdem haben wir uns mit der Frage nach der Zukunft von Mindestgarantien und lebenslangen Leistungen in der Altersvorsorge beschäftigt, insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund steigender Zinsen. In diesem Zusammenhang wendete sich das Forum auch dem Thema "Mehr Diversifikation in der Vermögensverwaltung: Nachhaltige Beiträge zur Altersvorsorge durch alternative Anlagen" zu. Der Vorstandsvorsitzende der Athora Holding AG, Dr. Nikolaus von Bomhard, eröffnete die Sitzung, und der Geschäftsführer von Athora Deutschland, Dr. Immo Querner, erläuterte, wie Versicherte von vielfältigen Anlagen profitieren können. Später gab Dr. Anders Malmström, Athora Holding Ltd., Einblicke in die Rolle von Private Assets für Versicherer, die durch Marktzyklen navigieren. Die Veranstaltung umfasste eine Grundsatzrede von Dr. Florian Toncar MdB, deutscher Staatssekretär der Finanzen, sowie Beiträge prominenter Bundestagsabgeordneter mit Zuständigkeiten für den Versicherungs- und Altersvorsorgesektor, u.a. Frauke Heiligenstadt MdB (SPD), Anja Schulz MdB (FDP), Dr. Olav Gutting MdB (CDU), Gitta Connemann MdB (CDU) und Omid Nouripour MdB (Vorsitzender der Grünen). Das Forum wurde zudem bereichert durch Beiträge von Experten aus Industrie und Wissenschaft, darunter Prof. Dr. Joachim Wuermeling, Deutsche Bundesbank; Prof. Dr. Helmut Gründl, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt; Dr. Max Happacher, ERGO International; Clemens Vatter, Signal Iduna; Patrick Busch, KENFO und Prof. Dr. Jochen Russ, ifa-Ulm. Wir bedanken uns bei allen Teilnehmern für den konstruktiven und sehr interessanten Dialog.

This week marks one year since Athora Italia became part of the Athora family, and brings my first opportunity to meet the team in person since I joined the group in October. Our Italian teams are doing solid work to secure discipled growth in Europe’s third largest insurance market. Between insightful discussions, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative workshops; we also took the opportunity to sample the incredible cuisine and take in the sights and sounds of Milan. Italy has so much to offer and we have a strong, innovative team that is committed to excellence in a competitive market. Thanks to all for the hospitality and thoughtful conversations. And happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating this week. It has always been a favourite holiday for me and brings an important moment of reflection and gratitude. Enjoy!
