UFC Refund Fans for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor Pay-Per-View Problems
August 30, 2017The UFC has announced it will refund fans who were unable to watch Conor McGregor's fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday due to technical difficulties.
UFC President Dana White released a statement explaining the decision:
Mayweather won the bout, which was shown on Showtime, with a 10th-round technical knockout.
Sports Illustrated's Mike Dyce noted the difficulties at the time:
Per MMAJunkie's Steven Marrocco, a number of fans were either unable to log into their UFC.tv accounts or were disconnected from the stream, the HD version of which cost $99.95.
For some the stream kicked in midway through, and others paid twice despite missing much of the main event.
Some customers were initially told by UFC.tv customer service representatives that they would not be receiving a refund and their inquiries were directed to streaming partner NeuLion.
Other providers including Showtime, Comcast and Verizon also experienced difficulties with customers struggling to purchase or view the event, with the former also offering refunds.
