Sami Zayn defeated Bron Breakker at Money in the Bank in Toronto on Saturday to retain the Intercontinental Championship.

The champion appeared to be on the verge of losing his title against the powerhouse, but he produced his trademark Helluva Kick at the right time to claim the victory.

After Zayn beat Chad Gable once again at Clash at the Castle three weeks ago, he was in search of a new challenger for his title.

It wasn't long before Breakker stepped up and announced his intention to take the Intercontinental Championship from Zayn, and it didn't take much convincing for the titleholder to accept the match for Money in the Bank.

Breakker was called up from NXT to the main roster in February, but after initially joining SmackDown, he was moved to Raw as part of the WWE draft.

The son of WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner and nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner made an instant impact on the red brand, picking up victories over the likes of Ricochet and Ilja Dragunov.

He also put Ricochet on the shelf with a vicious attack in the parking lot that saw Breakker slam The One and Only through the windshield of a car.

Breakker got even more ornery and aggressive in the weeks that followed due to Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser interfering in his matches, which was potentially bad news for Zayn.

Saturday marked a clash of styles and characters, as Zayn is a beloved underdog babyface, whereas Breakker is a true blue chipper and an elite athlete who quickly rose through the ranks in NXT despite a lack of previous wrestling training.

Breakker was a two-time NXT champion and one-time NXT tag team champion, but Money in the Bank represented his first opportunity to win a title on the main roster.

Zayn managed to get the better of Breakker and retain, but the challenger's pursuit of a title seems likely to continue, and there is little doubt the explosive Superstar will get one in the near future.
