This week we participated in the Study Visit organised within the Bioboost Project hosted by Slovenian partners ITC - Innovation Technology Cluster where we experienced and discussed the importance of the challenges in the digit-AI agrifood sector, and food circularity aligned with local culture and traditions, food safety and traceability combined with innovative approaches in the utilization of biological resources and technologies. In between the project meetings, we visited the Slovenian bioeconomy community – technology park, biotechnology companies, and SMEs: 🌱 ACIES BIO Ltd., a leading European microbial biotechnology company. From exploring their state-of-the-art fermentation facilities to learning about their innovative SmartRoute platform and scaling-up experiences for numerous industrial technologies and bioprocesses. Thank you Martin Kavšček, Bor Klančnik, and Urban Udovič for hosting us! 🔗 Green Point - a short food supply chain where thanks to #traceability system, supported by #blockchain technology they increase transparency and trustworthiness in every step of their supply chain, from farm to table. 🍌🍏 Hudo Dobro SME where thanks to the local collaboration with Green Point they are transforming surplus fruits and vegetables into new products. Their latest common ventures include fruit strips made from among others overripe apples, offering a healthy snack option. Additionally, the launch of the "Hudo zeleno" brand introduced pickles and other preserved veggies, made from unsold produce, emphasizing their commitment to reducing #foodwaste. 🏡 Hiša gibanice where we experienced local culture and food traditions that are fundamental for bioeconomy circularity. Hudo Dobro expanded to include Hiša gibanica to preserve cultural culinary practices according to traditional recipes with an obtained certificate and promote natural and regional products by offering education workshops and the gastronomic specialities of Pomurje. 💡 We also took part in the BIO-Boost DIGI-SI AGRIFOOD Hackathon organized in cooperation with DIH AGRIFOOD and EDIH DIGI-SI. Together with Slovenian SMEs and RPOs, we developed project ideas addressed to the identified challenges like food safety and traceability, consumer understanding, the role of SMEs, the transition to a bioeconomy or digital tools and technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Robotics, High-Performance Computing (HPC) that are crucial for transitioning into the bioeconomy. Special thanks to ITC - Innovation Technology Cluster (DIH AGRIFOOD) for hosting us and other project partners for a very fruitful cooperation!
