🌱 A green financial system can power sustainable economic growth. 🌱 I’m pleased to have joined 14 other leading civil society organisations on a new briefing setting out how the UK Chancellor, #RachelReeves, can unlock the UK’s #GreenTransition. The net zero transition is the UK’s most significant economic opportunity - capable of adding £57 billion to UK #GDP by 2030 if the right steps are taken. The new Chancellor must set out a clear vision in the Autumn Budget to green the financial system, revitalise the economy and deliver on Labour’s pledges of growth and stability. Reeves should send clear signals to the market, address critical barriers and empower the institutions with the most agency to drive change. Hydrogen has real decarbonization potential, but there’s also a lot of hype. So what should climate-conscious investors consider when it comes to building hydrogen into their clean energy portfolios? In our new guide, we provide the essential questions investors should ask to determine the alignment between the climate case and the business case for hydrogen, while also unpacking where hydrogen is best positioned to create lasting climate benefits. Taking climate action to new heights! 🌍 A new generation of methane-tracking satellites is set to revolutionize emissions monitoring this year. MethaneSAT and the Carbon Mapper coalition’s Tanager satellites - developed by Planet with technology from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory - are designed to detect and measure methane emissions globally. Methane contributes significantly to current global warming, and these satellites will provide the data needed to tackle this challenge effectively. 🔭 MethaneSAT: High-resolution, wide-area methane tracking. 🔍 Tanager: Detailed insights at the facility level. 🤝 Together, they will catalyze #ClimateAction to #CutMethane and slow the rate of warming, in our lifetime. Methane is the low-hanging fruit for climate action. But to reduce emissions, reliable information is needed to answer key questions: Where do emissions come from? How can they be mitigated? How are they changing over time? 🔍 As part of UN Environment Programme's methane science studies, a research campaign in Romania integrated data from various sources to uncover the true extent of emissions and showed an opportunity to reduce them. ➡️ New EU methane regulations will help scale the use of credible data to #CutMethane across the oil and gas sector. 📈 Credible measurement-based data is essential for transparency and accountability ➡️ IMEO’s methane science studies are helping by making open, reliable, and actionable data available to those who can act to reduce emissions. 🟢 By coordinating measurement campaigns and collecting data IMEO aims to help stakeholders across Europe and the world improve methane management and enable mitigation and speed and scale.
