Yesterday we saw the market trade significantly lower for butter. Driven by lower cream prices, cheaper Polish butter appeared, dragging down the sales prices for NL/DE/BE butter as well. Meanwhile, the GDT showed a steady outcome with butte prices still well above € 6000,-. SMP prices traded sideways and didn't show the upward momentum we expected. We are a bit puzzled about the market as prices keep trading up and down without any clear change of fundament. Read our market update for today via the link below.

#Sugar alert in the Netherlands! - Beverages with high sugar content get taxed extra. Looking to save some euros on your drinks? Dubbelfrisss got crafty! Their original "Framboos & cranberry" gets hit with the sugar tax. But their new "Boost framboos & cranberry" with a hint of dairy? interestingly, it avoids the tax and comes in at a lower price ( (€1.33 per liter compared to €1.79). The mystery ingredient? ♻️ One year after offering our coffee consumers the convenience of recycling their aluminum and plastic capsules in the blue bag (PMD), we are pleased to observe that Belgians are embracing this practice. An external survey we conducted shows us that - 80% of consumers are aware that they can dispose of their capsules in the blue bag and 61% always do it. - Nearly 4 out of every 10 capsules sold in Belgium are now collected. 🎉 Another good news, Delhaize Belgium has become the first retailer to take responsibility by joining the group of coffee producers who launched and finance this sustainable initiative for all capsules, in collaboration with Fost Plus. We hope this will inspire other coffee producers and retailers to join us 🙌! However, we still have a journey ahead to meet our goal of collecting and recycling all capsules put on the market. The orchards of our 4.000 apple farmers have started to blossom! 💮 This is a spectacular but delicate time: the growers use all their expertise to protect the flowers and guarantee the quality and the availability of the next harvest. One measure that requires particular dedication and skill is anti-frost irrigation. When the temperature goes below zero on spring nights the apple farmers receive an alert and immediately turn on the irrigation systems. The layer of water that covers the flowers creates an ice barrier. The energy released by the water as it freezes prevents the temperature around the flower from dropping too low. Butter, cheese, cream, smp - ready, steady…GO! How did your rally in the mad dash after skyrocketing prices in the dairy market go these past two weeks? 🙈🤪 Another interesting podcast to listen to. In the European market, there has been unexpected strength in skim milk powder futures. Despite a bearish trend since October last year, stronger-than-anticipated GDT auction results have driven a rebound in prices. This trend continued through recent European holidays, showing a significant increase in skim milk powder prices. On the butter side, recent weeks have seen prices moving from 6,100 to 6,600 euros, driven by nervousness in the market and limited product availability. The market has seen an aggressive upward move for Q3 and Q4 of this year to around 6,800-6,900 euros, with a drop-off expected in the next season. European milk production data for March showed an 8.3% decline in butter production, suggesting supportive near-term fundamentals for European butter prices. Overall, the dairy market is experiencing complex dynamics driven by both supply and demand factors, inflation, and unexpected market movements.
