About us

VOCSens is a spin-off from the Sensors, Microsystems and Actuators Laboratory of Louvain (SMALL) research group, within the Electrical Engineering Department (ELEN), Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics and Applied Mathematics (ICTEAM), Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. UCL is one of the most prestigious universities in Europe and home to worldly recognized laboratories. It relies on a strong expertise based on more than 10 years research on CMOS-compatible environmental sensors development and characterization, including gas, temperature, humidity and pressure sensors, as well as the CMOS design of read-out interfaces. The spin-off aims to the development and commercialization of ultra-low-power low-cost multi-pixel CMOS gas microsensors dedicated to selective volatile compounds detection in the Internet of Things and the Industry 4.0. The first product, EnviCam®, reflecting the concept of "environmental camera", efficiently combines gas, particulates, temperature and humidity sensors in a unique low-cost smart sensing platform featuring wireless communication through LPWAN networks. The main applications are found in environmental monitoring and industrial control (EHS, HVAC systems, alarm, etc.).

Our flagship product line EnviCam-3x are multi-gas microsensor components for IoT and IIoT/Industry 4.0 connected modules, genuine "environmental camera" (EnviCam®) allowing us to see the invisible, the (bio)chemical molecules that surround us. These microchips are based on our patented CMOSEnvi™ technology, integrating several nano-based sensing materials, within a CMOS-compatible process. Our semiconductor technologies are integrated into a SiP package measuring 10 x 5 x 0.9 mm³ (see illustration). The microsensor consumes less than 100 µW continuously (up to 1 measurement per second) and will be available for evaluation next summer. It will make it possible to measure NH3, NO2, CO and formaldehyde (HCHO) in a 1st version, then CO2 and CH4 from the course of 2023. The main advantages are: o its selectivity with respect to the compounds of interest, o its ultra-low power consumption, allowing applications up to 10 years autonomy and more, o and its ease of integration.
