🌎 At Plastics Europe, we support the LEGO Group's call to build a resilient European Union. As the EU transitions towards sustainable energy, there's a unique opportunity to enhance the environmental benefits of advanced recycling technologies. To facilitate this transition, we urge the EU to set clear criteria and methodologies for guiding companies in reducing their reliance on fossil fuels. Simultaneously, it's crucial to support initiatives that drive competitive growth across Europe. Together, we can build a resilient and innovative Europe. Let's champion sustainability and innovation for a brighter future. ♻💡

💡 Putting a value on plastic waste is a no-brainer, but if society is serious about ending plastic pollution once and for all, we need a variety of solutions.  This includes improved waste management, the redesign of plastics to make them more recyclable and the phase out of problematic plastics that are leaking into the environment. 🗣️ I recently sat down with Adam Duckett as he investigated the many contrasting views that still exist in and around the negotiation of a global agreement to end plastic pollution. 📖 Read Adam’s article to discover some of my views and those of others working on this agreement in The Chemical Engineer bit.ly/3S9czK7.

At Plastics Europe, we are committed to addressing climate change and waste challenges while considering plastics' indispensable role in our daily lives and in supporting the sustainability transition across Europe.   Our 'Plastics Transition' roadmap outlines a path to create a sustainable plastics system. By making plastics circular, driving lifecycle emissions to net zero, and fostering sustainable use, we aim to meet consumer demands and support the competitiveness of European industries.   Take a look at this op-ed authored by our Managing Director, Virginia Janssens, who outlines how political will and collaboration among stakeholders are key to revising the plastics system: https://bit.ly/4bM5vu1

A great few days attending the kick-off of the European Parliament plenary session. Showing off some of the innovations of our members at the POLITICO Europe Plenary Welcome Party - from the critical role of plastics in industries from suitcases to construction to automotive to electronics (and bras). Also showing how European producers are delivering on the goals of the #PlasticsTransition Roadmap by moving away from fossil raw materials and producing these products from plastic waste, bio-based feedstocks and even captured carbon trainers. Many thanks to the Plastics Europe team for supporting Sian Davies, Marta Pietrosanti, Jean-Yves DACLIN and Virginia Janssens and for the many members who joined us over the last few days.

Plastics Europe, alongside industry leaders from polymer producers to recyclers, welcomes the European Commission’s initiative to tackle plastic pellet loss. While we endorse the reduction of plastic pellet loss and the EU’s 2030 microplastic targets, we believe certain aspects of the proposal and recent amendments need refinement for effective, balanced, and practical legislation. Here are our key recommendations: 🔹Binding, mandatory, and harmonised legislation to prevent pellet loss for all pellet handlers. 🔹Elimination of all pellet losses via a management approach, underpinned by independent auditing and certification. 🔹 Include maritime shipping in the pellet loss prevention framework, aligned with IMO guidelines. 🔹 Establish legislative minimum performance standards for pellet packaging. 👉 Read our full position paper here: https://lnkd.in/eubEepf4 European Plastics Converters | EuPC, Plastics Recyclers Europe, ECTA - European Chemical Transport Association, EUMEPS, Polyolefin Circular Economy Platform (PCEP), British Plastics Federation
