GS1 is at the forefront of a European intelligent sorting ecosystem. The HolyGrail 2.0 initiative and GS1 are collaborating on the development of an Open Data Architecture for an intelligent sorting system. To bring this solution to the market, GS1's GTIN standard was chosen, as it is already well-established in the industry in many sectors. The aim is to combat plastic waste and ensure the correct treatment of discarded packaging, by developing an open and interoperable data exchange and management system that will improve sorting and achieve higher packaging recycling rates in the EU. GS1 Standing by the industry for the Digital Product Passport implementation. The Digital Product Passport is a key element on the road towards a greener and digitalised Europe. As we get closer to implementation, GS1 stands out as the right partner to help with this transformation: join our work by becoming a member of our standardisation table on Circularity and Digital Product Passport (contact GS1 for more information). https://gs1.eu/contact-us/ Besides GS1's proven ability to support the industry in many ways, it has also been shown that using existing open international Standards will make it quicker and simpler to implement Digital Product Passports. #DigitalProductPassport #GS1Standards #CircularEconomy Jan Somers Elif MÜFTÜOĞLU Gregor Herzog Camille Dreyfuss Diogo Monteiro de Almeida Henk-Jan Timmerman Francesca Poggiali Francesca Chiovenda Ildiko Lieber

Shaping the future of Digital Product Passport Regulation with GS1 Standards GS1 in Europe has actively been involved in CIRPASS - a European consortium that has been preparing the ground of the Digital Product Passports and on developing a roadmap for prototypes in three value chains: electronics, batteries and textiles. Now, GS1 in Europe is a proud member of CIRPASS-2 that will focus on the piloting and deployment of the Digital Product Passports. GS1 is actively committed to this purpose, not only offering its valuable contribution to a trusted data exchange Standards-based system, but also prompting its identity and features. https://lnkd.in/eZSpZaim #DigitalProductPassport #GS1Standards #CircularEconomy Jan Somers Elif MÜFTÜOĞLU Gregor Herzog Camille Dreyfuss Diogo Monteiro de Almeida Henk-Jan Timmerman Francesca Poggiali Francesca Chiovenda Ildiko Lieber

What are benefits of the Digital Product Passport? The advantages are clear and impactful. Accessing relevant mandatory data requirements about a product, via a simple scan, is a tremendous gain for all stakeholders involved. With the Digital Product Passport, significant reduction in environmental impact, enhanced transparency, more protection against counterfeiting, and a substantial increase in productivity are expected to happen. Circularity is all about value retention. It is about using products and materials as long as possible. Through repairing and reselling, the lifecycle of products can be extended. When products finally reach the end of life, the data in the Digital Product Passport unleashes its value for circularity. It will enable products to be remanufactured into new products or to be recycled into high quality, reusable materials. Structured information using GS1 Standards will support the use of the Digital Product Passport! #DigitalProductPassport #GS1Standards #CircularEconomy Jan Somers Gregor Herzog Elif MÜFTÜOĞLU Camille Dreyfuss Diogo Monteiro de Almeida Henk-Jan Timmerman Ildiko Lieber Francesca Poggiali Francesca Chiovenda

Which sectors are in scope for the Digital Product Passport? The scope of the Digital Product Passport is vast and transformative! In the European Union, all products traded, whether produced locally or imported, will need to carry a Digital Product Passport. This includes goods from any company and supplier who export to or place products on the European Union market. Initially, the Digital Product Passport will cover product categories such as textiles and footwear, construction products, toys, and detergents. Over time, it will expand to include other sectors. More will be known with the new EU work program for the next political term. Across all sectors involved, GS1 Standards will be crucial for a harmonised and global business language. Why the Digital Product Passport? The Digital Product Passport’s entry into the European Union market is imminent. It is a mandatory, digitally accessible data structure that will contain regulatory-driven information about products. Through a single scan, economic operators along the supply chains, regulatory authorities and consumers will be able to access the mandatory information they need. This new way of disclosing product information has the ambition to optimise data exchange along value chains. Through Identification, Capture and Share, provided by GS1 Standards, the overall process is simplified for all involved stakeholders. What is the Digital Product Passport? The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation is soon to be officially published by the EU: https://lnkd.in/dk9S9Bx9 It introduces for the first time ever into European law the Digital Product Passport. The Digital Product Passport is a new mandatory data structure enabling B2B, B2C and B2G data exchange. A simple scan of a standardised 2D data carrier enables direct data accessibility. The data requirements regarding the products that consumers will have in their hands will be decided by law and per sector. But that's not all – it's a game-changer for the circular economy, aligning with the EU's goal of climate neutrality by 2050. International open Standards for product identification, data carriers and data exchange, such as the GS1 Standards (https://lnkd.in/dnuVn_h) can certainly facilitate industry compliance and implementation. Stay tuned! #DigitalProductPassport #GS1Standards #CircularEconomy Jan Somers Gregor Herzog Elif MÜFTÜOĞLU Camille Dreyfuss Diogo Monteiro de Almeida Henk-Jan Timmerman Ildiko Lieber Francesca Poggiali Francesca Chiovenda
