As climate change escalates, so do the dangers from heat extremes, droughts, storms, sea level rise, and floods. The Innovate4Cities AI x City Climate Action Hackathon seeks innovative minds to develop a Rapid Climate Change Risk Assessment by leveraging #ArtificialIntelligence. 🚀 The upcoming #Innovate4Cities Conference 2024 is being delivered as a complementary event to the ICLEI Global Research and Innovation Symposium, which was held on 18 June at the #ICLEIWorldCongress in São Paulo, Brazil. The Symposium's takeaways will help feed directly into the conference. Through the #hackathon, we want you to help us deliver a high-level understanding of Brazilian cities' risks and vulnerabilities to climate hazards so that they can select and prioritize the most impactful actions to implement. Insurers and engineers have a lot more in common than one might expect. At London Climate Action Week #LCAW2024, ICSI, in collaboration with the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), convened the first in a series of roundtable discussions to address the critical task of scaling up adaptation finance in infrastructure. The inaugural roundtable, kindly hosted by Howden Insurance, brought together leaders from the #engineering and #insurance sectors to share their perspectives on de-risking investment in #adaptation and #resilience and to explore ways in which they could collaborate to remove blockers. Under the leadership of GCoM Board Member Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds, Hobart, Tasmania, has reduced council emissions by 70% compared to 2000 and is moving towards zero-emissions by 2030. This includes projects like organic waste collection to cut methane emissions and a comprehensive engagement with the community for deeper understanding and involvement in sustainability efforts.
