Residential Rebates

The Town of Banff provides financial rebates to help residents save water and energy, and to support transportation methods that help protect the environment. A list of qualifying products is provided below.

How Do I Apply?

To apply for Town of Banff residential environmental rebates, please complete and submit the Residential Environmental Rebate Application form along with all required supporting documentation. If you’re unsure if the item you’re considering qualifies, please e-mail the Town at rebates@banff.ca.

Eligibility

Only Banff residents are eligible for residential rebates.

Residents must provide documents with a recent proof of residency that shows their physical address. Examples of proof of residency documents that will be accepted are:

  • Current lease or rental agreement
  • Utility or Internet bill (not older than 2 months)
  • Property tax bill
  • Proof of current homeownership
  • Employer Housing agreement form for those living in staff accommodations within the Town of Banff

To be eligible for some rebates, the energy efficiency of a specific product must be under either the Energy Star or CEE program.  These certifications are often listed in the specification sheets for individual products.  To determine whether a specific product/model meets these requirements, please contact the product manufacturer or look for your product in the lists provided at the following web sites:

Rebate applications are accepted at any time.   For some rebates, only purchases with receipts dated after/between certain dates are eligible.  Rebate applications are limited to items purchased in the current or previous calendar year, unless otherwise defined for a specific rebate. Please do not hesitate to apply or inquire about eligibility.

Environmental Rebates

ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION

Snow and Ice Walking Aids (winter only)

  • Get a rebate on the purchase of urban crampons, also known as traction devices,  footwear ice spikes, and a variety of brand names.  $20 rebate.  This rebate is offered Oct. 1 through Mar. 31.

Studded Tire Rebate (winter only)

  • Studded bike tires - $40/tire (or $40/bike conversion kit) This rebate is offered Oct. 1 through Mar. 31.

E-bike

  • Buy when you are ready. There is no funding limit or deadline
  • Receipts must be dated January 16, 2023 or later
  • Debit/credit transaction receipts are required. Dealer invoices stamped 'PAID' do not constitute adequate proof of purchase
  • Bikes must have operable pedals and comply with current provincial regulations, including max power = 500 W, max speed 32 km/h (20 mph).
  • Used or refurbished e-bikes are not eligible, regardless of origin
  • Bicycles with a pre-tax purchase price over $5,000 are not eligible. Exceptions may be granted to residents with special needs, at the Town’s discretion.

Banff Resident: Lesser of 50% or $500 
Banff Access Program Tier 2: Lesser of 50% or $750 
Banff Access Program Tier 1: Lesser of 50% or $1,000

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Refrigerators

  • Old fridges use more electricity than any other home appliance. Upgrading an old fridge can reduce its energy usage by 30%. Refrigerator - $300 (Energy Star Most Efficient, or CEE Tier 3+). 

Clothes washer

  • Clothes washer - $150 (Energy Star Most Efficient, or CEE Tier 3+)

Ventless Dryers

o    Ventless Dryer - $150 (Energy Star certified, or CEE Tier 1+)

Dishwasher

  • Dishwasher - $150 (Energy Star Most Efficient, or CEE Tier 3+)

Door Replacement

  • Installing energy efficient doors in your home reduces your energy use and heating bills. 
  • Door replacement- $100 per door (Energy Star certified)

Window Replacement

  • Upgrading to energy efficient windows reduces heating costs and road noise, and increases air tightness and the value of your home. Window replacement  - $100 per window (Energy Star certified). Window replacement  - $200 per window (Energy Star Most Efficient). 

Furnace

  • Reduce your annual energy use and heating bill by installing an Energy Star certified furnace. $500 rebate available for a high-efficiency (Energy Star certified).

Heat Pump

  • Electrify your space heating equipment with any air- or ground-source heat pump and get a $750 rebate. Eligible models can be found on the lists of eligible products published by Natural Resources Canada:

Heat Pump Water Heater

  • Electrify your domestic hot water supply and get a $500 rebate. Eligible models can be found on the list of products published by Natural Resources Canada

Solar Hot Water Heater

  • Using sunshine to pre-heat your water can cut your annual hot water costs by up to 50%. $650 rebate available for an Energy Star certified solar hot water heater from the Town of Banff. 

Home Energy Audit

  • Home energy audit - Lesser of $500 or one third of cost
  • Must be completed by an NRCan-registered EnerGuide Energy Advisor

WATER EFFICIENCY

Toilets

  • Toilets are often the largest source of water use in a home, accounting for 30% of an average home’s water use. Replacing older toilets with new water-efficient ones can reduce water use and water bills. Dual flush toilet (3LPF / 6 LPF or less)  - lesser of $50 or 50%. Low-flow toilet (4.8 LPF or less) - lesser of $50 or 50%.

Rain Barrels

  • By installing a rain barrel to capture water from your roof, you can harvest rain water to use for watering your plants, conserve water and save on your water bill. $50 rebate.

In Ground Cistern

  • Capture rain water from your roof for use in your garden and to conserve potable water. $500 rebate for a minimum system size of 1,500 litres.
