The months between May and September are a great time to visit the Atacama Desert and the Iguazu Falls. While it is technically winter in the Southern Hemisphere, these destinations have year-round pleasant weather, only a fraction of the visitors and guests can enjoy our off-peak-season rates. By combining Awasi lodges, you can design an extraordinary trip combining two of South America’s most iconic destinations for an itinerary starting at just 7 days.

By combining a stay in both Awasi Atacama and Awasi Iguazu, we include special discounts and complimentary nights in some of our favourite hotels of Buenos Aires or Santiago. These exciting metropoles, both full of history and culture, are the perfect layovers to soak in urban flair.

There is also a very convenient direct flight connecting Foz de Iguacu with Santiago de Chile twice a week, making it possible to scrape off an entire day from your travel itinerary and save valuable time to focus on our excursions. This flight operates on Sundays and Thursdays, which would allow either a three- or four-day stay at Awasi Iguazu and Atacama. Ideal for a one-week getaway.

Awasi Atacama, Chile

Fly to Calama Airport directly from Santiago de Chile (2 hours) or via Buenos Aires and Foz de Iguacu. Your private Awasi guide will meet you at the airport and drive to the hotel.

Stay: at least 3 nights

With only 12 Suites, Awasi Atacama Relais & Chateaux is the ideal luxury lodge to discover the Atacama Desert in a 100% Tailor-Made way.

The Atacama Desert is a place of extremes: sharp volcanoes line the horizon, wide open pools of salt lie underfoot and sand dunes sweep up to topaz-blue skies, whilst at night the sky lights up to reveal some of the world’s best star gazing. Among the driest places on the planet, the Atacama may look inhospitable but llamas and alpacas roam the high terrain and the soil produces multi-coloured corn, quinoa and purple potatoes which our Chef turns into mouth-watering creations.

Between May and September, the rainfall is especially low and the nights are a little longer, making it the best season for Astronomic Observation. But there are several reasons why you should consider a trip to the Atacama Desert during these months. Browse among some of our original 100% private excursions for more inspiration.

Awasi Iguazú, Argentina

Fly to Puerto Iguazu via Buenos Aires (2 hours), or to Foz de Iguacu  via Santiago, Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. Your private Awasi guide will meet you at the airport and drive to the hotel.

Stay: at least 3 nights

Laying on the border between Argentina and Brazil, Awasi Iguazu and its only 14 Villas are the best way to experience Iguazu way beyond the waterfalls.

So famous yet so little known. The falling waters of the Iguazu Falls attract visitors from all corners of the globe, but most of them only dip their toe into the shallows of what this corner of Northern Argentina offers. You have arrived in the Atlantic Rainforest, a hotbed of endemic species, a place budding with nature and culture, hardly visited by mankind.

Between May and September, the typically high temperatures drop a few degrees, making the weather much more agreeable for outings and for enjoying the delicious creations of our Relais & Chateaux restaurant. During this period, several artists will be staying at Awasi Iguazu to take part in our Awasi Artist Immersion Programme, so you could casually run into a talented sculptor, paintor or visual artist and share a cocktail at the bar or a chat on the Main Lodge’s terrace.
