WordPress Now Offers a 100-Year Plan for Domains

Chances are your website might outlive you, the WordPress execs who put this together, and possibly the company itself.

If you’re worried about losing your domain name, WordPress has a 100-year deal for you.

Typically, domain registrations are capped at 10 years. With its new plan, WordPress will register and host your website for a century, meaning it will likely outlive you (and the WordPress execs who put this together, and possibly the company itself).

The idea here is to provide for companies and families that want to preserve content beyond a generation. Some suggested use cases include “families who wish to preserve their digital assets — stories, photos, sounds, and videos… for generations to come,” and “founders who want to protect and document their company’s past, present, and future.”

With the plan, customers will not only get domain registration for a century but they’ll also get hosting through WordPress with unmetered bandwidth as well as 24/7 personalized support. WordPress says it will keep multiple backups of content across distributed data centers, and it will automatically submit your site to the Internet Archive if your content is public.

WordPress also has ownership protocols in place so you can transfer ownership of the URL to a child or someone new, something that's inevitable with a 100-year plan.

As you might imagine, the plan doesn’t come cheap. It's $38,000 (or $380 per year), which will probably put it out of reach for many families and individuals. If you're interested, though, fill out this form on WordPress' website.
