Dashlane

Dashlane's main window displays your saved passwords as tiles with website icons. You can optionally switch it to a list format, which gives more information but shows fewer items at a time.

You'll do most of your interaction with Dashlane using the browser extension, which handles capturing and replaying passwords. You can use the extension as a standalone on platforms where Dashlane doesn't offer a native app.

Dashlane generates 12-character passwords by default, using all available character sets. We advise cranking up the length; after all, you don't have to remember the generated password.

The Password Health report presents an overall security percentage, and lists compromised, reused, and weak passwords.

For the 500+ supported sites, Dashlane can automate the password change process. With one click you can update passwords for all supported sites and have Dashlane remember the changes.

Dashlane can store multiple instances of personal info in six categories, and use them to help you fill web forms.

You can also use Dashlane to fill credit card data in web forms, and it displays your cards with the color you chose, and even the logo of the issuing bank.

Dashlane lets you share login credentials with other users. If you choose limited rights the recipient can log in using the shared credentials but can't see or modify them.

When Dashlane detects an online transaction, it offers to save the details as a receipt, along with a few screenshots of the checkout process.

On mobile devices, Dashlane offers an Inbox Scan, which located emails corresponding to accounts you opened. You can add any or all of these to your Dashlane data, but you must supply the password yourself.

New in this edition, Dashlane scans the dark web and reports if any of your accounts may have been compromised.

In testing, the dark web scan did find some breaches, but reported no worries because the affected password had already been changed.

Dashlane now offers a simple on/off VPN, or virtual private network. You can't choose the server you'll use, but there's no bandwidth limit.

The VPN doesn't reconnect automatically if it loses contact with the VPN server. To see current VPN status, you must open the VPN menu.
