The Eufy Smart Lock Touch With Wi-Fi Bridge offers stylish looks, easy installation, and an embedded fingerprint reader, all of which impressed us when we reviewed it earlier this year, but we criticized its lack of third-party support and integrated Wi-Fi. The Eufy Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi is essentially the same smart lock, but with the benefit of built-in Wi-Fi. It works well, but it still lacks the third-party support that you get with the much cheaper Editors’ Choice award winner, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock.

A Familiar Design and Features

The Eufy Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi looks identical to the Eufy Smart Lock Touch With Wi-Fi Bridge, but now you can choose between black, nickel, and silver finishes. Most importantly, it doesn’t require a Wi-Fi bridge because Wi-Fi is built into the lock. Aside from the lock itself, Eufy includes interior and exterior escutcheons, a deadbolt assembly and strike, keys, and assorted mounting hardware in the package. All parts arrive in numbered boxes that coincide with steps outlined in the written installation guide.

Eufy Smart Lock on door

The lock’s zinc alloy exterior component has an IP65 weatherproof rating and measures 6.0 by 2.7 by 1.0 inches (HWD). The lock sports a fingerprint scanner, a 12-button touch-screen keypad (0-9 buttons, as well as Lock and Enter buttons), and a keyway hidden behind a magnetic disc. On the bottom edge is a micro USB port for opening the lock with a battery pack (should the internal batteries fail) and a Reboot button. A data cable that protrudes from the lock's back panel is used to connect the exterior escutcheon to the interior one.

The interior component of the lock shares the same finish as the outer component. It measures 7.9 by 2.8 by 1.2 inches and has a thumb turn for manually locking and unlocking the door. Behind a removable cover is a compartment for the battery pack, a Setup button, and a QR code. Also under the hood are 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios. The lock is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack that Eufy says should last up to 10 months per charge (depending on use).

The Eufy Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi works with the Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants, but lacks the support for Apple HomeKit and IFTTT applets that you get with the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock. That said, you can make the Eufy lock work with certain devices that are part of your Alexa or Google ecosystem, including cameras and motion sensors, as well as with other Eufy devices such as the Eufy Video Doorbell.

Lock In Your Settings

The lock uses the same Eufy Security app for Android and iOS as other Eufy devices. It appears in its own panel on the Devices screen; tapping the lock’s panel takes you to a screen with a large circle that displays a lock icon and its status (locked or unlocked). To lock or unlock the door, simply drag the icon down.

At the bottom of the screen are Lock Events and Manage Access buttons. Use the Lock Events button to view instances of the lock opening or closing; you can see time and date information, who initiated the event, and how the lock was engaged (manually or via app). This information is also accessible via the Events button on the Devices screen. In the Manage Access section, you can add users, register fingerprints, create access schedules, and assign passcodes.

The gear icon in the top right corner of the lock screen takes you to the settings screen where you can enable features such as Auto Lock (the door will automatically lock when closed), One-Touch Locking (the door will lock with one long press of the Lock button on the keypad), Wrong-Try Protection (the lock will not work after a set number of wrong passcode attempts), and Scramble Passcode (which lets you enter random numbers before and after your passcode). Other settings allow you to enable or disable notifications, calibrate the lock, and enable or disable the lock sounds.

Simple Installation, Smooth Operations

Installing the Touch & Wi-Fi lock is easy thanks to Eufy’s clear written and video instructions. To use the video instructions, you first need to download the mobile app, tap Add Device, and select Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi from the list.

I started by removing my old lock and then installed the Eufy deadbolt assembly and strike plate. I fed the exterior escutcheon and data cable through the borehole in the door, fit the tailpiece into the deadbolt slot, and connected the mounting plate to the exterior escutcheon using the supplied bolts. Next, I connected the data cable to the interior escutcheon and attached the interior escutcheon to the mounting plate. Once I installed the batteries, a voice command told me to complete the setup by downloading the Eufy Security app.

I opened the app, tapped Add Device at the bottom of the Devices screen, and selected the Smart Touch Lock & Wi-Fi from the list. I scanned the QR code on the battery compartment using my phone’s camera and tapped I Have Finished the Installation (you can watch the video installation guide at this point). I then pressed the Setup button until I heard a beep and a voice that said "Ready to set up." I tapped Next and the app immediately recognized the lock. I followed the instructions to close the door and calibrate the lock, selected my Wi-Fi SSID from the list, and entered my password. I gave the lock a name, created a master passcode, and registered my thumbprint by pressing and lifting my finger on the scanner eight times. After a quick firmware update, the installation was complete.

The Eufy Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi worked well in testing. The touch screen provided good backlighting and was very responsive, while the lock responded instantly to app commands for locking and unlocking the door. The fingerprint scanner worked flawlessly, as did voice commands to lock and unlock the door. An Alexa Routine I created to have the lock engage (lock) when a Ring Floodlight Cam detected motion worked as intended. And I didn't have any issues with the Auto Lock, One-Touch Locking, and Wrong-Try Protection features.

A Solid Lock That Could Be Smarter

With Eufy's Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi, you can lock and unlock your door using your voice, your phone, or your fingerprint; you can also use its responsive touch-screen keypad or a traditional key. It's easy to install, offers embedded Wi-Fi, and supports Alexa and Google voice commands. That said, it doesn’t work with IFTTT applets or Apple’s HomeKit platform, which limits its usefulness in a smart home setup. For those capabilities, check out our Editors’ Choice winner, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock. If you're looking to spend less, the Wyze Lock is an excellent choice; it too lacks much in the way of third-party integrations, but that's more understandable at just $89.99.
