Sony is finally simplifying the Discord voice calling experience for PlayStation 5 users, rolling out an update that will allow PS5 users to directly join Discord calls from their consoles without using another device.

The upgrade is expected to slowly release over the coming weeks. US users will be among the last globally to get access to the new feature, however. Sony will bring the new Discord for PS5 to Asia first, then Europe, Australia and New Zealand and the Middle East first before enabling the simpler, more straightforward version of Discord in the Americas.

Right now, PS5 gamers have to jump through some hoops to use Discord that could feel cumbersome. Users have to first link their Discord account to their PlayStation accounts and then find a "Transfer to PlayStation" button within the Discord app on their computer or mobile device. Discord first added PS5 voice chats last year, and Xbox Series X and S users have a similar, multi-step call experience.

It's a small update, but Sony's move toward simplifying the Discord calling experience for console gamers means joining a call goes from taking multiple devices and clicks to being a more streamlined and simplified process. It also makes the cross-platform social gaming experience less of a pain. To get access to the newest version of Discord on the PS5, users will have to update their consoles to the latest software version and ensure their PS5 and Discord accounts are linked.

Sony is also rolling out a profile-sharing feature that will allow PlayStation users to share their gamer profiles more easily. The "Share Profile" button on the PS5 app or console will generate a profile that will let other gamers add you as a friend.
