‘Openness may not completely disarm prejudice, but it’s a good place to start.’ —Jason Collins, first openly gay athlete in US pro sports

A sister volume to So Here I Am: Speeches by Great Women to Empower and Inspire, this seminal collection places the loud and proud voices of the vibrant LGBTQ+ community centre stage. From equal marriage to gender definitions, bullying to parenthood, the issues covered in these speeches touch on all aspects of LGBTQ+ and reflect the diverse and multi-faceted nature of this community.

Experienced public speaker and Creative Director for Google's Creative Lab Sydney Tea Uglow introduces each speech with a concise bio of the remarkable person who delivered it. Paired with powerful illustrations, the unique personality of each speaker is brought to life. A ribbon keeps your place in the book.

We are stronger when we stand together, and this collection encourages us to do just that and to celebrate the beauty of all our rainbow hues.

  • We Kiss the Screens

    Visual Editions

We Kiss the Screens is a contemporary multiple-perspective story experiment based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the mythological epic that many consider to be the most influential work of literature on Western art. Instead, we present eight accounts for you to create your own unique truth.

Set against the backdrop of today’s siloed hashtagged information landscape, no account can agree on exactly what happened. Here you make digital choices that have visible consequences: from swiping up and down between chapters to gliding through eight siloed #hashtags, to swiveling through a gradient-maker to create your unique colour spectrum, to making your very own personalised printed copy.

  • A Universe Explodes

    Visual Editions

A Universe Explodes (AUE) is an exploration into whether it is still possible to ‘own’ cultural artefacts in the digital age.
The brief was borne of a specific change in our cultural landscape: the decline of 'owned' cultural artefacts.
Streaming is coming to replace physical items like books, DVDs, and CDs.
Yet we as humans remain wedded to the idea of ownership - as something with specific cultural, social, economic, even political value.

AUE is a digital book which is passed along a chain of owners, each owner putting their own mark on the book before passing it on - like a dedication in a physical book.
The book uses Blockchain technology to authenticate and record each ownership, so that at any time a reader can look up the previous owners - like a borrowing card in a library book.
Meanwhile access to the book - which is published on the web - is free.

  • A Curiosity of Doubts

    Penguin Australia

While society generally espouses the value of logic and certainty, we grow because we doubt. Humans have not spent millennia traversing oceans and experimenting with explosives because of confidence in their beliefs. Culture and science are rooted in unknowns, and when we accept doubt we are more creative and generous, more human. Self-doubt is the indubitable baddie of many aphorisms, but what would life without doubt look like? TL Uglow looks at how writers across the ages have tackled the…

From the first radio broadcast, electronic media has been constantly evolving. As the possibilities for storytelling multiply, the Peabody Awards will continue to draw attention to stories that matter in electronic media. We look toward the new forms of storytelling that will arise as we move deeper into the digital age.
