In need of an LGA Cyber 360 Implementation Partner? Look no further. Unsure what the LGA Cyber 360 Framework is? You probably don't work in Local Government. That said, many of the recommendations in the LGA Cyber 360 Framework are NOT Local Government specific. Recognising the changing digital threats to your council is the first step in protecting your residents. Implementing solutions to remediate gaps in your armoury is the next logical step and there are quick wins to be had. #identitymanagement #mfa #pam #lgacyber360

Has your organisation taken reasonable steps to prevent cyber breaches? ‘Reasonable steps’ involve necessary actions to meet regulatory obligations, like the Privacy Act 1988 for Australian companies and the SOCI Act for critical infrastructure. Each organisation's systems and infrastructure are unique, so it’s essential to analyse and develop a strategy that suits your specific needs. Meeting these obligations strengthens your cyber security posture and can minimise legal repercussions should you experience an attack. A technology success partner can help your organisation navigate these complexities and identify the most effective path forward. Please contact me to start a conversation about how Netier can help. #CyberSecurity #LetsBuildCyberResilience #Netier

Goodness. See the report within the article. "However, it used the report to urge Victorian departments to adopt data and analytics to detect “fraud and corruption risks”." "Two departments that were audited, the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) and the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) currently use data analytics to “proactively identify fraud and corruption risks” prior to awarding supplier contracts." "This approach should be adopted more widely, the report said, recommending that departments “set up regular data analytics reviews to assess their procurement activities for fraud and corruption risks”." “At a minimum, this involves collating and centralising data so they can export and review it,” VAGO added. https://lnkd.in/gpM2giFC

For those of us who have been hit by a data breach (think Optus, Medibank, Latitude and ClubsNSW etc ) there is good news in the budget: 🔹The Federal Government allocated 288m to progress the Digital ID System - see article for breakdown ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gJq6KYfE We OVERSHARE way too much personal information everytime we provide copies of our paper passports and plastic licences. 🔹 $23.4m allocated to pilot digital wallets and verifiable credentials 🔹 importantly there will be pilots to explore use cases for same. It’s also good news for businesses who carry the burden of retaining copies 🤦🏻 of ID documents and other personal information as part of their KYC/PoI obligations. Shout out to Minister Katy Gallagher for her strong leadership in driving this reform - which is critical National Infrastructure to enhance privacy, security and service delivery for the 21st century 🙏

The importance of a data governance strategy cannot be overstated - and the necessity for this to align with the cyber strategy is fundamental to ensure a solid cyber foundation is in place. If a cyber crisis hits, the need to understand what data is at risk must be addressed. #informationassets #datagovernance #cyber

Excellent news from Data & Digital Ministers that Australia will align on ISO18013 family of standards for Digital Driver's Licences and likely other key Government credentials like Proof of Age cards. This is a huge step forwards, allowing States, Territories, and wider industry to invest in technology that will be interoperable and usable for all Australian residents 👏👏 #digitalidentity Thales Digital Identity and Security https://lnkd.in/g5c4s-9H

🌐 Google Cloud Accidentally Deletes UniSuper’s $125 Billion Pension Account – An Urgent Lesson in Cybersecurity & Cloud Backup 🛡️ In a startling incident, Google Cloud accidentally deleted the account of UniSuper – a major Australian pension fund valued at $125 billion. This misstep left around 600,000 users without access to their accounts for nearly two weeks. UniSuper's choice of cloud service aimed at streamlining processes ended up becoming a nightmare due to unforeseen data deletions caused by a misconfiguration issue. 1. Importance of Redundant Backups: Even as a reputable organization, Google Cloud's incident underscores the necessity of maintaining backups across multiple platforms. 2. Risk Mitigation Strategies: Companies should adopt a multi-cloud strategy to prevent reliance on a single provider and ensure swift recovery in the event of data loss. 3. Consistent Vigilance: Regular audits and compliance verifications could help identify and rectify all potential risks before causing significant disruptions. 4. Recovery Preparedness: Having diverse and readily accessible backup solutions determines the efficiency of recovery processes amid unexpected data loss. This incident epitomizes why merely using cloud services like Microsoft, Google, or Dropbox isn't ample protection. You must have a robust cybersecurity strategy, including third-party cloud backup to secure your private practice, hospital, specialty pharmacy, or any other healthcare enterprise's email and cloud storage systems. 🥅 Read the full article initially posted in SPICEWORKS to gain deeper insights into the UniSuper debacle and enhance your organization’s cybersecurity stance - https://bit.ly/454QAJU 🔒Act Now! CLOUDS ARE RISKS TOO At one time clients believed they had beaten the security risk by deploying a firewall. Nowadays they say "oh we are in the cloud" and go back to that happy feeling. Let us not forget that the cloudy planets are man made and man managed. Whether the planet is named Google or Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure or any other we have to take care of our data without reposing any trust in the promises and certifications they display. Check this case with Google and Unisuper - the lesson is simple. Backup and up and up.. use alternate providers and air gap each. While you are doing this maybe you should also look at your cost and calculate whether cloud did really save you money (as the planet owners claim). What happens is that you are handcuffed and chaines to the service. One guys email system does not talk to the other. One guys data store is different from the other and you will ask for a rebirth when you want to change ships. Oh there is a lot more.. but for the weekend please focus on the eff-up in the clouds in your IT infrastructure. #cloud #risks #backup #CloudFail https://lnkd.in/dfFiU3SG

In a time of an increasing volume cyber-attacks, the Bureau of Meterology an Australian Government website still doesn't support HTTPS. 🔓 Sure most of the weather information is non-sensitive but is this acceptble for a government website in 2024? Who knows what backdoor API, or authentication data in plain text is lurking deep within our treasured rain-radar . . . 🤔 🌧 💻 To read up on the differences and security gaps between http and http-ssl/tls, have a read of this article: https://lnkd.in/gy7M7WZF
