We can see his attacking value (1.05) is way above average and more than compensates for his negative defensive value (-0.19). As an attacking midfielder (AM), 0.41 is also on the higher side. Beyond scoring, he has begun to facilitate a lot more. His success rate of finding a killer pass is quite high and if he can increase his volume of playing that final ball it will make him that much more dangerous to defences. At 0.73, his WR or actions per minute is around average just as his successful actions per minute is (SWR). A lot more to come from this young player. He loves the ball at his feet and taking on defenders before rifling in a powerful shot to test the keeper. If he can find more balance between shooting and playing a pass, he will be even more of a handful for defenders. He has played out wide a fair amount even though crossing is at this stage a weakness of his. A more central role or cutting in from out wide will yield more success for him so it’ll be on defenders to keep him wide. He puts in effort on defending and has some success but frustration and over-exuberance can occasionally see him give up fouls and miss tackles. Overall, a very dangerous attacking option

🏉 Reducing high contacts relies on punishing the perpetrator but are we just elevating the risks? Recent incidents in the AFL have ignited a crucial conversation about player safety in Australian Rules Football. While reactive measures like suspensions/return to play timelines have been effective, the question remains, is there a more proactive approach available? Since the implementation of rules penalizing head contact in 2007, players have been caught between the drive to win and the imperative to stay safe. This has sometimes led to risky behaviours, deviating from traditional coaching cues, and putting players at greater risk of head injuries. But what if we shifted our focus from visual outcomes to individual responsibility? By holding players accountable for actions that increase the risk of head contact (attacking a GB head on, ducking into a tackle, dropping the knees etc.), would we create a fairer and safer playing environment? Critics may question the practicality of umpires assessing intent, as well as the precarious step of placing greater blame on those who have suffered the physical outcome. But following the 2012 findings from Purdue, that CTE can develop despite no concussions, would playing into the more innate instinct to protect oneself be more attainable than external duty of care that goes against the intent to win? Since 2007 in the WAFL, high-contact incidents are the #1 most prevalent type of free kick in all men grades, and #2 in females, reminding us of the urgency to act. With around 1,584 high-risk scenarios for head contact per season in the AFL alone (4 per team per game, for 198 games per year – AFL data 1992 to 2023), the cumulative effect of sub-concussive blows cannot be understated. These estimates alone ignore the potential for blows in trainings as well. As stewards of the sport, the AFL sets the tone for safety standards across all levels. So, in our efforts to prioritize player wellbeing and preserve the essence of the game, can we rethink and aim for a more proactive approach?

If we learn anything, it is the importance of a strategic and focused business model cannot be overstated ☀ Financial Mismanagement and Payment Issues: Several teams reported severe financial issues, leading to teams halting operations mid-season. ☀ Leadership and Communication Failures: The league's commissioner, Lee Hutton, has been criticized for availability and lack of communication has exacerbated the financial and operational problems ☀ Operational Disruptions and Unstable Infrastructure: The AFL has experienced several logistical issues impacting the league's ability to maintain a professional environment ☀ Expansion and Team Viability: The rapid expansion to 16 teams for the 2024 season overextended the league's resources, while some franchises lacked proper organizational backing complicating the league's stability​. The AFL's history of financial instability, a 2009 bankruptcy filing and ceasing operations in 2019 contributed to a fragile foundation of poor planning. Strong business practices and fiscal management are critical to the success of individual teams and the overall health and sustainability of the league. Conversely, failures in these areas can have detrimental effects on the sport from operational disruptions to the abrupt cessation of team operations. When The Sun-Herald in 2019 reported that Cricket Australia inflated their sport participation numbers to appeal to sponsors, the public became more skeptical of such numbers across all sports. Thankfully, for Year13’s latest Wellbeing Check 2021 report, we’ve asked young Australians themselves what sports and exercises they do and found which are actually the most popular. Drumroll. The top three. At number one, the most underrated form of exercise: walking (83%). In second, good ol’ running, which almost half of them said ‘yes’ to (48%). And in third, 41% said they’re lifting weights. Next up, bush walking at 24%. One whole quarter of Gen Zs. How’s that for Australian culture? If rage-against-cyclists-people are still around, then they’re pissed off at almost a quarter of Gen Zs who cycle (23%). For those arguing that cycling is un-Australian – looking at these stats, pedalling is essentially as popular as hiking for young people. Swimming Australia once said, “Swimming is an important part of our national identity and as a Nation surrounded by water, it is in our DNA.” How much has this narrative shaped us? Coming in sixth place, 19% of Gen Zs told us they swim. The ancient mind-body connection practice from India made its way to The West, widely transforming into a more physical fitness offshoot: yoga, which 17% of Gen Zs told us they do.  The eighth most popular sport or exercise is dancing (14%), and we wonder how much of this is TikTok-influenced. At 13% is soccer, which is approximately twice as popular as Australian Rules Football, three times more than cricket, and six times more than Rugby Union Rugby League. Finally, at equal tenth place is basketball and – to which our international neighbours may be shocked to know – netball, at 11%. Here are the rest. 11. Boxing 9% 12. Skateboarding 8% 13. Interesting thing about the fixes for youth sport 1. Most are hiding in plain sight having been configured & delivered by those with boots on the ground vs those presiding over it 2. Most are proven effective by actually doing shit and then fine tuning vs hypothesizing in a vacuum and then failing to achieve real-time-relevance 3. Most are implemented expeditiously outside of the communities & countries they originated in vs being celebrated as the innovation standard at home 4. Most have been architected by people, on their own dime vs not for profit entities beholden to grant funding and it’s prohibitive conditions 5. Most have been configured to be rolled out in someone else’s brand, because we’ve all come to understand that optics, in most cases, are more important than actual impact We’re doing our part. Largely outside of a system that desperately needs our (and many others) expertise & intellectual property. And every club, contract, community and country we have been fortunate to engage, was because of an ABUNDANCE mindset in a decision making seat To fix youth sports, requires MORE OF THOSE MINDSETS in MORE OF THOSE SEATS

$131.8m IN INVESTMENT KEEPS PEOPLE MOVING IN SINGLETON IN 2024/2025 With the ongoing extension of our footpaths network and major improvements to sports and recreation facilities including Alroy Oval and Singleton Gym + Swim, Singleton Council is kicking off a whopping $54.7million capital works program in 2024/2025 to keep people moving. Endorsed at Council’s ordinary meeting last night, the 2024/2025 Operational Plan includes 162 actions to make Singleton an even better place to live, work and play, with a total of $131.8million to be invested across the local government area. Most notably, the Plan includes one of Council’s biggest-ever capital works programs to deliver vital community infrastructure projects including: ➡ Alroy Oval Sports Precinct Redevelopment | $6.5million ➡ Brunners Bridge Replacement | $7.2million (delivered across 2024/25 and 2025/26 budgets) ➡ Singleton Gym + Swim improvements | $5.6million ➡ Kilfoyles Bridge Replacement | $4.5million ➡ Singleton AFL Building | $2million ➡ Upgrades to Stanhope Road | $2.5million ➡ Howe Park Tennis Court Upgrades | $1million Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said there was a conscious balance between planning for the future of the Singleton local government area and providing exceptional services now. “Every project in this Plan will help to propel our community forward, most obviously through an enormous capital works program, but also through initiatives such as exploring renewable energy sources and supporting local businesses that will contribute to the health, wellbeing and liveability of the people of Singleton right now and for years to come,” she said. “There’s been significant community discussion about the need for improvements to Singleton Gym + Swim, and I’m very pleased this Plan responds to that with a new roof and splash pad, amenities, mechanical repairs and carpark and lighting upgrades on the way." Cox Architecture chosen to design new Tasmania Stadium COX, a leading Australian architectural firm, has been chosen as the Lead Design Consultant for the Macquarie Point Development Corporation (MPDC)'s Multipurpose Stadium in Tasmania. The new stadium in Hobart would be home to the Tasmania Football Club of the AFL - Australian Football League. COX has designed sports venues including Optus Stadium, Sydney Football Stadium, Dunedin Stadium and the redesign of the Adelaide Oval. Alastair Richardson, Director at Cox Architecture, told ABC News that while it was incredibly early days, they had some ideas, but were “wary” of earlier artistic renders. He said: "They give some clues of what we don’t want to do. This building needs to be scaled, transparent, open, something that actually has an engagement with the city and not a concrete wall, sort of blocking off its access. One of the key things we want to do is to really make sure that this engages with the streetscape, that this engages with people walking around, and obviously is respectful to the Cenotaph in terms of how it sits just below the escarpment. Can we sink it slightly? What does that look like? How do we maintain the envelope such that the height is there in relation to cricket and football for example? But is as low as possible in terms of the perimeter." Richardson also said he was confident the stadium could be built within the A$715 million budget set for the project. ** James Avery, CEO, Stadiums Tasmania, will be speaking at the second Australian edition of the SVB LIVE Global Networking Events series, being held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, on June 25, 2024. ** MPDC CEO, Anne Beach, said the appointment of COX followed a competitive market testing process. This video provides a key development lesson on how we can make better decisions and strategies based on as much available information as possible As we officte or coach teams and people, through our own bias’s, experience and what we pay attention to, we can jump to assumptions or conclusions. This can be flawed as we may be providing perspective or forming opinions or views based on parts of the reality. Pausing, gaining others perspective through entering conversations from a position of curiosity can help us form a more informed view of the situation. This allows us to be more deliberate and accurate in co- creating and developing strategies or options to change, improve or validate a path or a strategy. A $4million advanced budget allocation for the Singleton Gym + Swim 25metre pool dome replacement has been formally approved at last night's Singleton Council meeting, ensuring the project is delivered over the 2024/2025 summer months as planned and minimising the impact on pool users. A further $700,000 for the detailed design of a new Council Operations Depot was also approved in advance from the 2024/2025 financial year budget, allowing the procurement phase of the project to occur in the final quarter of the current financial year. A report to the meeting said the advance approval meant the timely completion of both projects would meet community expectations. OTHER DECISIONS FROM THE MEETING ➡ A total of $23,652 will support community events in Broke, Bulga and Milbrodale under the Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) between Bulga Coal Pty Ltd and Council. Under the terms of the Agreement, Council endorsed the payment of contributions including: • $15,000 to Broke Residents Association for the Back to Broke Bicentennial celebration; • $5,000 to the Bulga Milbrodale Progress Association for the Bulga Bicentennial celebration; • $3,000 to theHunter Valley Off Road Racing Association for the Milbrodale Mountain Classic, and • $8,520 to the Broke Fordwich Wine and Tourism Association for the ‘A Little Bit of Broke’ event. ➡ In a separate resolution, Council also resolved to contribute $5,000 in addition to in-kind support to the Broke Bicentennial celebrations. ➡ Cr Mel McLachlan moved a motion to research and determine the costs, staff resourcing, property availability and steps required to establish a lease agreement with Upper Hunter Homeless Support to provide properties in the Singleton LGA for short-term domestic violence reprieve and homeless support. The motion was unanimously supported. ➡ Council endorsed advice to be provided for consideration by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on the Applicant's Response to Submissions report in relation to the Hunter Valley Operations Continuation Project. The Response to Submissions report details how the Applicant has addressed matters of concern raised by Council in its submission to the Environmental Impact Statement. Council's advice will identify proposed conditions of consent that, should the proposed Project be recommended for approval, are considered important to address impacts to the community and the environment. ➡ Council adopted the Development Servicing Plan for Water Supply and Development Servicing Plan for Sewerage. ➡ The Draft Community Engagement Strategy, including the Community Participation Plan, will be publicly exhibited for 28 days for community feedback.
