QPS Benchmarking
Conduct the ACSQHC Staff Survey on Patient Safety Culture The Australian Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture has been developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care and the Commission recommends the use of the tool in all Australian Hospitals to monitor and measure patient safety culture. Clinical and non-clinical staff observe different aspects of how the hospital works and are often the first to notice patterns of unsafe practice. The survey provides an expertly validated tool to assess the hospitals status of patient safety culture, raise awareness and develop appropriate interventions. The Commission recommends running the survey online, and QPS can email the survey link directly to your staff or to your organisation for distribution.. This survey is due in Quarter 1, July-Sept. Contact QPS Benchmarking today and learn how we can help you. General Practitioners (GPs) in Australia play a crucial role in healthcare, offering a wide range of services from preventive care to diagnosis and treatment. They work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to provide person-centred care, ensuring patients receive the best possible support. Accreditation is key to maintaining safe and quality general practice standards in Australia. It is an independent recognition that practices meet the requirements of the governing national industry standards. At the heart of Australian healthcare, GPs continue to evolve their service delivery models to meet the changing needs of patients. For more about the evolution of general practice accreditation, read my World Health Organization action brief: https://lnkd.in/gYiAhyd6 ISQua - ISQua EEA - AGPAL - Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited - AGPAL & QIP - Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care #healthprofessionals #generalpractice #qualitycare #healthcare #WHO

With a new coalition government there is a hope and public pressure that they will work to strengthen the public health system and revisit decisions to handover district hospitals to private players. The centre needs to speak and listen to the people working on the ground to understand and resolve issues and deliver health care to all https://lnkd.in/deFRi5Yi

The Department of Health and Aged Care has released a new 24/7 nursing API that enables providers to directly report care minutes to the government. The API can be integrated by aged care software vendors into their systems once they have passed a conformance process with the Australian Digital Health Agency. The care minutes initiative mandates direct care from registered and enrolled nurses and personal care attendants, with current targets for the sector at 201.70 minutes of direct care per resident per day, including 40 minutes of nursing care. Once the API is integrated, aged care providers can report the 24/7 nursing figures directly into GPMS. Provider management and authentication APIs have also been released into the production environment. Another API for quality indicators has been released into the software testing environment. Latest figures show that 52 per cent of aged care providers are meeting their total care minutes targets, and 46 per cent are meeting the nurse minute targets. #digitalhealth #agedcare #healthtechnology #innovation #digitaltransformation #nursinginformatics

The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia
SHPA is marking National Reconciliation Week 2024 #NRW2024 by reiterating our support for investments into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, on the back of funding wins announced in the 2024 Federal Budget, while alerting practitioners to key dates and ways to prepare for upcoming changes. SHPA President Tom Simpson FANZCAP (Lead&Mgmt) says that while recent First Nations health budget measures are certainly welcome, it is important that practitioners are trained to deliver the program in a culturally appropriate and safe manner: ‘The success of any health care rests on its cultural delivery and that’s why we joined with NACCHO Australia last year to deliver education providing both an overview of the Closing The Gap registration process and specific ways practitioners can facilitate the program appropriately.' Mr Simpson says the recent significant expansion of the Closing the Gap PBS Copayment Program to cover all PBS medicines and to finally include public hospital pharmacies is a testament to SHPA’s advocacy. ‘We have long championed healthcare equity for First Nations people, and this advocacy complements our Reconciliation Action Plan, endorsed by Reconciliation Australia last October, to improve healthcare outcomes for Australia’s first peoples. ‘SHPA is committed to ensuring the advanced expertise of all pharmacy practitioners is harnessed to improve the lives of all Australians, safely, appropriately and fairly.’ Read more in our article → https://lnkd.in/gbXrvr2x

The Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA) National Guidelines for the Prevention, Control and Public Health Management of Outbreaks of Acute Respiratory Infection in Residential Care have been updated. The guidelines can help providers plan, prepare, detect and manage cases and outbreaks of acute respiratory infection, such as COVID-19 and flu. New information includes: • changes to days in isolation following a COVID-19 diagnosis • inclusion of combination Rapid Antigen Tests to detect COVID-19, influenza A/B and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) • greater focus on outbreak management, not just COVID-19, and the inclusion of RSV. For more information about the changes, read the updated National Guidelines and review your outbreak management plans accordingly. https://lnkd.in/gbVnGsWh #agedcareaustralia #InfectionControl #IPC

Reflection continues: PART 2: NDIS Q&S Commission Masterclass series 25.7.2022 Collective action against misuse of psychotropics beings! The joint statement from the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC), the NDIS Quality Safeguards Commission (QSC) and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) is about the important issue of inappropriate use of psychotropic medicines among people with disability and older people, and the commitment to collaborative action to reduce it. We heard publicly that CEO Claire Robb's speaks to LWB's commitment to take a stand on misuse of psychotropic medications. The VSP office over the years has led extensive research on this area of practice extending back to the Kew Residents post de-institutionalisation. Reports of value and personally I used these as reference daily to initiate referrals back to CDDHV since 2013 at AA and then through my governance oversight at LWB from 2019 - 2022 with great outcomes. Attached follow-up review report evidence that most actions from the psychiatric reviews were not implemented. I also evidenced from 2013 - 2022 these were still not actioned in a lot of individual cases and people's files were not evidencing updated diagnosis of e.g. Autism vs provisional diagnosis of unspecified ...........

MCAP
Our team is proud to see that the Expert Panel, appointed by the Tasmanian Government to assess the facilitation and delivery of patient access and flow through Tasmania’s four public hospitals, has used MCAP data as part of its independent Review; the impact of rising presentations, admissions and complexity on emergency departments and inpatient hospital capacity are critical areas of concern for the state. The Independent Review of Tasmania’s Major Hospital Emergency Departments report, published on 7 May 2024, details how MCAP data, collected throughout the Review, suggests that a sizeable proportion of patients admitted to overnight beds across the state are not qualified, and could be receiving care in a different setting. Notably, in the bed snapshot completed on 31 January 2024, 148 patients statewide were identified through MCAP reviews as requiring either Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or National Disability Insurance (NDIS) level care. The Expert Panel has used its analysis to identify a number of recommendations for improving whole-system access and flow in accordance with current and short to medium-term health service demand. The ACT Government will deliver more paediatric health services as part of its record health investment in the 2024-25 ACT Budget. More than $57 million is being invested to expand paediatric inpatient care and community-based paediatric services to support our kids.
