You want to succeed in marketing. What are the best ways to learn about the industry?
Marketing is generally not an industry, it's a profession. The industry is determined by your employer or that of your clients. To succeed in your career, you need to constantly and continuously develop your hard skills, soft skills, business acumen, and industry knowledge. Be curious. Read! (And by read I mean read quality content, not just the comments on Instagram.) Make it clear to your employer how important professional development is to you. If your employer can't or won't provide you with the learning and development opportunities you need, seek them out for yourself (and seek out an employer that will support your ambitions and career goals). Be opportunistic and learn from every experience.

You want to give a presentation that stands out. How can you use whiteboards to make it unforgettable?
DEVELOP PENMANSHIP It might sound basic but penmanship will make or break you. Computers have made many of us scrawl like medicos. If the whiteboard is an extension of your self, learn how to write and communicate clearly on this medium. It's not easy - especially when under pressure or the clock's ticking.

How can you ensure your measurement and evaluation aligns with your communication strategy?
Your strategy must first be sound. If it's not, however you choose to measure it will be irrelevant. Don't just set your strategy - invite others to challenge and find fault with it - before you lock and load. And when you do determine your metrics, define failure itself. Is failure not moving the needle at all, or is it going backwards? Conversely, is the definition of success simply being brave enough to have a go (which should be encouraged), is it positive progress, or is it enough to have a learned experience?

The Wayside Chapel
- 5 years 7 months
Poverty Alleviation
The Wayside Chapel has provided unconditional love, care and support for people on and around the streets of Sydney's Kings Cross since 1964. As one of 650 regular volunteers, I worked as a part of a small team in the Chapel's cafe, preparing and serving meals. For many of Wayside's visitors, this may be the best (or even only) meal they will eat for days at a time. And yet, their hunger for belonging and respect is often greater than their need for food.

Soupe Populaire is Paris’s oldest active soup kitchen. Conceptualised in 1895, Soupe Populaire provides a free three-course meal to 136 visitors (in four services) six days per week.
"Soupe Populaire’s presence in Saint Germain des Prés exemplifies the blatant contrast one encounters walking around one of the smartest, most famous Paris quarters. Amidst all the luxury and elegance, the appearance of dozens of homeless people is a familiar sight. It’s a hair in the soup." (credit: Le…Soupe Populaire is Paris’s oldest active soup kitchen.
