Truth is that as a working mother, even with a supportive partner, some days are hard. Our daughter is my number one priority, we are blessed to have her, but I like to work so I feel guilty. That means compromise.   When things don’t work to plan, it can trigger insecurities. Not going to plan includes everything from illness to forgetting curriculum day or a breakfast meeting / after-hours catch-up (that I know I should go to).   It means sometimes the floor doesn’t always get vacuumed and I must breathe deeply when somebody says something insensitive.   Anecdotes about the time someone said, “Is she your granddaughter” (we’re older parents) or exclaimed “I don’t know how you work full-time” are now my go-to party jokes. But we’re good, we're in a privileged position where we can choose our lifestyle. Others can’t.   That’s why I am sharing this video today. I am so grateful to the Gidget Foundation Australia (no affiliation) for the work that they do.   The more we can do to highlight the need for and importance of non-judgment, the better we’ll all be.   Anyone can struggle, get stressed or burned out. It doesn’t matter your lifestyle - you can be a parent or a caregiver; single or married - and it’s not just because you are unlucky. It’s not because you love less.   Negative judgement is not new. Even my parents had to overcome “helpful” commentary because they were young. We can all do better in support first, questions second. We can call in and be there for someone in need. So please put Wednesday 19 June into your diary. This #GidgetGivingDay, if you can, please donate to support expectant and new parents in need.

Here are five reasons why we need strong Australian industry associations. 1. They can spread a message, educate Australian consumers and grow audiences. 2. They can advocate for change with government, through cost effective communications campaigns. 3. They can create relationships and be a source of reliable information and education and training for members. 4. Through their advocacy, communication and media relations, they can prevent badly designed policy and achieve better outcomes. 5. They can bring people together. It’s 5am in Melbourne, midday in Napa Valley, 3pm in Washington DC and a conversation between 4 new friends landed on #mateship. “In Australia, a 'mate' is more than just a friend and often implies a sense of shared experience, mutual respect and unconditional assistance”* For Karen this brought to mind the community led recovery following the Black Saturday Fires in 2009. While government started their navel gazing, the community galvanised. -Communication channels were established -Community leadership was built -Physical and other barriers were removed -Resources were identified and requested on FaceBook, Instagram - the word got around. -Resources were donated and delivered -Volunteer teams were created -Teams with participants from all regions ran for months and years -Temporary structures were built -Volunteers were rostered for all sorts of duties from cooking to fence building. That's #mateship and so much more. When government attempts to adopt the word #mateship folk view it with cynicism. A mate is not by design. A mate appears often when you don’t even know you need them. Mates don’t care about the status quo. Mates just get on with the task at hand. #mateship and community led recovery has never been more important than right now. Page 6 Found it! Document from 2018. A lot of links are being deleted by the Agency so we can’t see the historical documents. Prices were always meant to become #deregulated- the assumption was that #competition would push prices down. Instead the Agency set the price cap but all prices went to that level - and now the Government want to prosecute businesses charging that price cap? Some of the existing regulations include:  Terms of business: o Establishing protocols and processes that are binding on a Registered Provider of supports to participants in the NDIS; and o Ensuring providers agree to uphold the objectives of the NDIS and work with participants to achieve individual outcomes.  Pricing reviews / Price Guide: o SettingandreviewingNDISprices; o Updating prices on at least an annual basis effective 1 July each year, taking account of market trends, changes in costs and wage rates; o Insubmarkets,takingtemporarymeasurestosupportthemarketplace;and o - Moving over time to deregulated prices as the market matures I received this email yesterday after I queried the increase - I rang them and they are only charging NDIS people this amount. I told her about the new price check taskforce. She wasn’t aware of it. “NDIS has not increased their pricings for Dietetics. On the NDIS fee guide, the pricing for Dietetics remains at $193.99. However, previously, xxxx Healthcare has been charging below the NDIS fee guide at $166.99. As such, we have now adjusted our pricing for Dietetics services to be in line with the NDIS fee guide. Any sessions that took place and/or reports written before 1 April 2024, will still be charged at the old pricing of $166.99. Any sessions that took place and/or reports written after 1 April 2024, will be charged at the adjusted pricing of $193.99.” Updates to the NDIS Code of Conduct Guidance make it clear that providers need to ensure participants pay a similar price to non-NDIS participants when purchasing a product, support or service through their NDIS plan,” Minister Shorten said. “They should not unfairly pay more than other people for the same product, support or service just because they are participating in the NDIS.”

Well, here's one of those well-loved selfies in the wild (I know, I know, #ThisIsntFacebook – please scroll by if my visage offends). This one is brought to you by the NZ Sunshine Rating Board*. Through the power of an overly-dramatic pose, I'm demonstrating exactly how powerful the NZ sunshine is. In the morning, my office is an innocuous place. Light bounces evenly around the room, resulting in zero blindings. By the afternoon, however, said office is essentially a Lightbox. It's a bit like living inside a well-cut diamond. I have to say, NZ does a great job of supplying high-quality light. I mean, just look at those shadows, the contrasts, the epic brightness on the left side of my face! At last I have something to blame the wrinkles on. As an ex-Londoner via the West Country, I'm learning to adjust to the concept. It may not be too late for me to enjoy seeing things clearly. I think most people have experienced a time where they felt excluded, and the effects can have major impacts on people's lives. It's great to see more of a focus on diversity and inclusion in the community and in workplaces. You go to work to do a job, and no one should feel excluded at their workplace. There are so many stories of WA businesses who are making great progress in D&I, like BHP, and I feel so thrilled to help put those stories in the spotlight. Let's celebrate WA businesses who are making strides in D&I and raising the bar of what's expected in the workplace.

Australia’s commitment to increase disability representation “In a world where one in five people live with a disability, there is a severe underrepresentation of writers and actors with disability in advertising and marketing-related content, and sometimes entirely non-existent,” Ann Sherry AO I’ve posted about the lack of media representation of people with disability on here before. And while I'm highlighting the 'problems' and advocating for change, I'm also offering solutions and amplifying the voices of others who are making them. Today, I’m excited to share that Inclusively Made has brought together Australian brands, creative agencies, and production shops for the National Inclusion Commitment event at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) headquarters in Sydney. Inclusively Made is inclusion certification in film, TV and advertising, ensures that people with disability are represented and thrive in global creative industries. The event focused on embedding authentic inclusion in production and entertainment through the Inclusion Commitment pledge. Industry leaders from Nine, BIG W, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Bupa, Telstra, Thinkerbell, BMF Australia, and M&C Saatchi Group were in attendance. In partnership with Inclusively Made, Alisha Buaya’s article ‘Brands and agencies unite for better disability representation in marketing’ shares Nine's pledge to increase representation on their network. In the past, Nine has supported the efforts of Media Diversity Australia and it's great to see them come on board for this too. The Inclusion Commitment pledge focuses on: - Authentic Representation: Increasing the presence of people with disability in marketing campaigns. - Championing Inclusive Practices: Creating pathways for disability inclusion in marketing and production. - Partnership with Inclusively Made: Aligning efforts to advance inclusive practices in media and production. Without the likes of Inclusively Made, disability representation will never become the social norm. With big brands and organisations making the commitment to inclusion, we remove societal barriers and stigmas, thus creating a society of inclusivity and diversity.
