The team at the Western Sydney International Experience Centre have been working hard these school holidays - hosting free activities for kids (and big kids of course!) ✈ So far these school holidays, almost 2000 people have visited WSI to learn about Sydney's brand-new airport, engage in some first nations cultural immersion for NAIDOC week, and discover more about international destinations with special arts and crafts activities 🌏 If you're looking for something to keep your future pilots occupied these school holidays, it's not too late! We're open from 10am to 4pm Saturday to Wednesday. All activities are free, but some require booking so make sure you don't miss out! It was a pleasure to welcome Western Sydney community members to the WSI Experience Centre today to celebrate NAIDOC week 💛🖤❤️ Our visitors both young and old participated in some cultural immersion activities, learning the story of the Yidaki (didgeridoo) in our yarning circle - and enjoying some first nations arts. NAIDOC week is an important opportunity for us to continue and strengthen our cultural connection with first nations people. NAIDOC week isn't over yet! Not only are we building a game changing new airport for Sydney, but we are also making a positive contribution to the lives of young people from Western Sydney. Our Higher Education Internship program aims to provide young Western Sydney locals with the opportunity to develop their skills and learning with practical experience in their chosen field. Last month, we farewelled our latest intern Elena - who was a part of our community engagement team. Elena used the skills gained while studying social science at Western Sydney University to help support community engagement initiatives across Western Sydney - making a meaningful contribution to WSI and the community. We are incredibly proud of the progress Elena made during her time here and we are confident that she put the skills that she developed at WSI to good use in her next role. From a visit to our site as a school student to being a full-time worker on the most important piece of infrastructure since the Sydney Harbour Bridge - Samson is a young indigenous young man from Western Sydney proud of his culture, and the contribution he is making to WSI 🖤 💛 💗 ✈ He is just one of many first nations workers across the project making a real difference. Being a 24-hour airport, we will have different water demands at different times - so getting our water supply right is pretty important! 🚿 ✈ Birat is a Senior Project Engineer overseeing the construction of three massive water tanks that will deliver potable and recycled water to our terminal. We recently completed grooving operations on our 3.7km runway! 🛫 What is grooving? Basically, we cut lines into the runway from side to side - creating channels for water to run off. This prevents water from pooling which could lead to aircraft aquaplaning. Just one of the many milestones we can tick off as we inch closer to welcoming the world to Western Sydney in late 2026!
