Empowering children living in poverty through education. Because every child matters.
About us
So They Can is an international non-profit organisation that works with vulnerable communities and their governments in Kenya and Tanzania to educate and empower children and their families out of poverty. Over a 7-10 year development cycle, So They Can partners with individual communities to understand their needs and implement education and community development projects that will best support them. Throughout the cycle, they develop relationships and ensure transfer of knowledge and management skills to ensure the sustainability of the projects. This enables So They Can to shift into a governance role, expanding their focus and core resources to help other vulnerable communities. Today, So They Can supports 45,000 children and community members annually living in poverty through their Education and Community Programs which are addressing 14 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. 🌟 Happy World Youth Skills Day! Today we’re celebrating this year’s theme, ‘Youth Skills for Peace and Development’ — focusing on the crucial role young people play in peace building, conflict resolution and global development 🌍 👏🏾 Every day we’re blown away by our students’ ability to learn, adapt and harness their unique skills for good. With the support of So They Can’s ‘My Voice’ project, we’ve witnessed so many bright and innovative initiatives (led by students) to empower their school community — from hair cutting and shoe polishing services, to micro-bakeries, beading and blanket making. These products and services are sold to their local community, with all profits invested back into their businesses and their schools. Not only does this enable students to mobilise their brilliant skills, but over time, this enables the school to become self-sufficient, so when So They Can finally exits, the school community is empowered to fulfil their needs ❤️ 📧 Head to your inbox now to get to know some of our students and learn about their incredible skills. ⭐️ This international Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day, we're celebrating all of our determined Wezesha Business Skills participants who are making huge strides towards empowering their families and communities out of poverty through the power of business. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤝 In 2023, So They Can supported 188 women through our Wezesha Business Skills Project. Through access to professional #businesstraining and the provision of #capitalloans, these women were able to establish new enterprises and/or improve the profitability of their existing business. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 The impact? Better financial stability, improved health and wellbeing of their families, and more of their children attending school. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ➡️ Read more about the impact of this life-changing project here: https://lnkd.in/gryVAixa #MSMEs #MSMEday #microbusiness #microfinance #womensempowerment #sotheycan #SME #businessskills #endpoverty
