SMEC is proud to highlight Jack Moorfoot, who was selected to be part of the Roads Australia 2024 Fellowship Program. This exceptional mentoring initiative pairs emerging industry talents with some of the most seasoned, senior leaders in the Australian infrastructure sector. Jack joined his cohort at the program’s Sydney mid-year workshop, participating in leadership development sessions and receiving the group project topic centred around the decarbonisation of existing infrastructure. At SMEC, we recognise that partnerships are powerful, and the greatest outcomes are achieved through open collaboration. This fellowship embodies that philosophy, bringing together industry leaders to foster innovation and drive change. Jack is eager to leverage this opportunity to develop connections and influence change within the industry. In our recent interview, he reflects on the program's objectives: "The fellowship program is a fantastic platform for establishing broad industry networks and fostering innovation, especially in areas such as sustainability and productivity, which are closely aligned with Roads Australia's policy priorities." Jack also delved into his motivations and experiences in the program and highlighted the importance of addressing regional road networks. "Investment is predominantly in major cities which given population concentration is understandable, however as a result, communities in regional Australia often become a lower priority. As leader of SMEC’s Regional Victorian transport business I’m passionate about improving road connectivity and safety outside of metropolitan areas," he said. We are proud of Jack's commitment and look forward to seeing the innovative solutions his group will develop as part of the fellowship. #SMEC #RoadsAustralia #Leadership #Transport

As one of the largest hydropower projects in Central Asia at 1,860 MW capacity, the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Project is poised to significantly enhance the energy security of the Kyrgyz Republic and Central Asia, while also supporting regional decarbonization efforts. Kambarata-1 is a tripartite effort between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in a step forward in efforts to harness hydroelectric potential and bolster energy infrastructure in the region. SMEC has been appointed to carry out Consulting Services for Environmental, Social Assessment and Planning, and preparation of tender documents of the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Project. The Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant’s expansive reservoir will play a pivotal role in optimising the operation of the Toktogul HPP reservoir. This harmonisation of water management in the Naryn–Syr Darya Basin is crucial for sustainable development. It aligns with the government’s vision of realizing a green and accessible energy future, contributing significantly to the region’s sustainable growth. We are proud to share that the Alliance of Transport for NSW, Fulton Hogan, and SMEC was announced as the New South Wales state winner for the CCF NSW | Civil Contractors Federation NSW 'Project Value $30M to $75M’ Earth Award 2024 for our work on the Heathcote Road Bridge Upgrade project. To improve safety and provide traffic flow benefits, this project involved upgrading the road network at two locations: Linden Street and Heathcote Road Bridge. “The CCF’s Earth Award for Heathcote Road Bridge Alliance is a celebration of the people and their ability to collaborate and think out of the box when focused on a common goal. For SMEC the award means a lot but more importantly, it tells us that we made a positive impact and stayed true to our commitment to supporting communities through sustainable solutions based on robust engineering and a can-do attitude. We do feel inspired to strive for better,” Michal Krotofil, Technical Principal – Bridges and Structures shared. Being named as a state winner, the Alliance will now progress to the 2024 CCF National Earth Awards taking place in November, which recognise the ‘best of the best’ civil construction projects around Australia. Congratulations to all. Learn more about the Awards here: https://lnkd.in/g3RRG2eB #RedefiningExceptional #CCFEarthAwards #Transport #AwardWins
