Skilled volunteering can deliver benefits for everyone involved. We’re happy to be able to support Australian Business Volunteers (ABV) to develop a clear strategic plan to support the future sustainability of Clothing The Gaps over the next three years.

Last week, a group of NAB colleagues volunteered their expertise for a nine-day community strategy challenge for Clothing The Gaps.   Clothing The Gaps is a vibrant community brand celebrating Aboriginal people and culture and is a majority Aboriginal-owned business and social enterprise.   For this Community Strategy Challenge, the NAB skilled volunteer team aims to develop a clear strategic plan to support the future sustainability of Clothing The Gaps over the next three years.   This program is made possible through Australian Business Volunteers (ABV) partnership with NAB, which has developed over the last seven years. Working with First Nations organisations is a crucial part of our collaboration. Together, we tackle strategic business challenges for community organisations.  #ABV_CSC #NAB #SkilledVolunteering #FirstNations #ConnectingCommunities

Nineteen-year-old Noah* had been couch surfing for years, saving diligently to purchase his first home. While he had $20,000 in life savings, he didn’t think it was enough of a deposit alone. That was until he met the NAB Colac team, who helped him become a homeowner through the Regional First Home Buyer Guarantee. The Colac team’s care for Noah didn’t stop there though – they helped him move in with the essential household items he need to make his new house a home. In February this year, a storm impacted the community of Mirboo North, knocking out power transmission lines and leaving 5000 homes without power. Over the past year, 180 NAB colleagues were mobilised as part of the NAB Foundation recovery crew, Disaster Relief Australia's corporate and community volunteer army. But it takes many hands to rebuild after a disaster, so this time we joined forces with both DRA and AFL - Australian Football League to help the community get back on its feet. Work to fix storm damage in the community continues, and as Australians face more frequent natural disasters, there’s a growing need to help communities become more resilient. We're playing our part through volunteering and NAB Ready Together - a flagship program to help Australians withstand and recover from natural disasters. Payment alerts in the NAB App and Internet Banking have helped our customers avoid more than $100m in potential scams in 15 months. Read more below. ⬇ New insights out today also reveal: 📌Customer scam reports increased by around 10% between October 2023 and March 2024 compared to the same period a year beforehand, while customer losses decreased by around 17%. 🚩Since we announced last July we were removing links from SMSes, we’ve sent more than 40 million text messages to customers without links. That’s 40 million moments in 12 months where we’ve been able to make banking safer for our customers by making it easier to distinguish if a text message from NAB is legitimate. Stopping the crime before it happens is the only way we can stop criminals targeting Australians. We can, and will, do more.

Throughout the month of June NAB colleagues have celebrated Pride Month with our new Shimmer Wall.  Built by NAB customer Electric Confetti, the new Pride star aligns with the pride progress flag and has additional colours including blue, white, pink, black and brown. "Our people make us who we are here at NAB and we wanted to honour the diversity of our LGBTQIA+ community. I love that this new design means that more colleagues can see themselves in in the star as we continue this important work," NAB Pride Co-Chair and Specialised Lending Executive Julie Patterson said.   Electric Confetti founder Natalie Jarvis helped to design the wall, bringing NAB’s new Pride Star to life. "We were honoured to do this job, working with the Pride team to translate the Pride Star into a stunning shimmer wall. We stand for everyone having a voice and the ability to be heard and we’re proud to ‘reflect’ this in our special reflective medium," Natalie said. "Mapping out the new Pride Star and choosing the right colours to bring joy to this space was the ultimate job, and we enjoyed working with the wonderful NAB Pride team."
