Maddocks is proud to celebrate NAIDOC week: Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud. We are committed to standing alongside Australia’s First Peoples and supporting self-determination. As a law firm, we have a responsibility to do what we can in our sphere of influence to contribute to reconciliation in Australia. We work towards this through our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and other initiatives - but know that these are small steps as part of a bigger journey. We feel privileged to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities, and organisations, through our Pro Bono Scheme. In 2023-24, Maddocks provided pro bono legal assistance to 68 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, dedicating more than 600 hours of free legal support in a range of areas from native title through to wills and estates. We look forward to continuing to build trust and meaningful relationships with First Nations clients and communities in our Pro Bono Scheme, and across our firm more broadly. For more information on our RAP, please see here: https://loom.ly/Xxk1J9Y. Today, Maddocks proudly supported the FW (Future Women) NAIDOC Week breakfast event in Melbourne. Our group listened as First Nations women shared powerful stories, honouring their Elders and envisioning a reconciled Australia. Hosted by Wonnarua and Yuin woman, Madison Howarth and featuring N’Arwee’t Professor Carolyn Briggs AM, Mundanara Bayles and Laura Thompson, this event highlighted the enduring legacy of First Nations matriarchs in the fight for justice and recognition. The event was an unforgettable experience that deepened the group’s understanding of First Nations culture and history. #NAIDOCWeek #KeepTheFireBurning #FirstNations

Victoria’s state taxes regime is complex – and this is especially the case for the range of property-related taxes that apply to all Victorian landowners, both local and foreign. Because of this, Maddocks’ Michael Taylor-sands and Nick Brewin have developed a #tax cheat sheet to help clarify any confusion. This snapshot seeks to summarise how Victoria taxes #property-related transactions across five different asset classes, as at 1 July 2024.
