This week, Monash Heart Private celebrated a significant milestone: 100 successful Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedures. TAVI offers a less invasive alternative to open heart surgery for aortic valve replacement, enhancing long-term prognosis and overall quality of life for our patients. This last week we celebrated the intersection of Mother's Day and International Nurses Day by delving into the inspiration behind the journey of Vicki Green, a shining example of passion and dedication in nursing.

Honouring our Nurses and Midwives Earlier this year we celebrated the wonderful contribution of our midwifery and nursing teams as part of our celebrations for International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses Day. As part of our celebrations we held the annual Jessie McPherson Private Hospital Nursing & Midwifery Awards. The award categories are: ·  Nurse of the Year ·  Midwife of the Year ·  Team of the Year This week for #WinnersWednesday we are celebrating our Team of the Year - Clinical Education Team. Jessie McPherson Director Clinical Services, Jennine Harbrow highlighted how the importance of a strong Education Team cannot be underestimated and how we are so lucky at Jessie McPherson to be supported by this incredible team of highly skilled nurses and midwives. Whether it is out on the floor or behind the scenes, the Clinical Education Team work hard to support the clinical staff in providing safe, high-quality patient care and achieve excellent patient outcomes across all clinical areas. In addition to education and training relating to clinical skills and knowledge, the Education Team is crucial to the well-being of our various teams – the support and encouragement they give to our nursing and midwifery staff is so important during the challenging moments we often face as clinicians. Aside from the huge array of annual mandatory education and training our teams must complete, some of the education initiatives of note around the hospital this year have included: ·  Implementation of the education program supporting the transition to Monash Heart Private at the Victorian Heart Hospital ·  Development of the Cardiac High Dependency Unit (HDU) course ·  Stream-lining and development of midwifery education ·  Managing the introduction of the Eve App ·  Introduction of the Cardiac Monitoring and Telemetry courses ·  Development of the novice, intermediate and advanced Neurosciences courses ·  The incredible support they give to our graduate nurses and midwives, and the growing number of postgraduate students currently undertaking Masters programs in wards 31 South, 51 South and Monash Heart Private. Most recently, Vicki has shown exceptional dedication in supporting the establishment of a new surgical ward that will not only benefit patient flow and capacity management, but also the expansion of surgical services to meet the growing demands of our community. Vicki’s attention to detail and strong leadership skills over many years has been instrumental to the Surgical Services provision at Jessie McPherson. Vicki has gone above and beyond in her duties as a nurse, demonstrating a deep commitment to patients, the team and the wider hospital. Vicki’s dedication to improving patient outcomes and her strong work ethic make her a true asset to our team. The award categories are: ·  Nurse of the Year ·  Midwife of the Year ·  Team of the Year This week for #WinnersWednesday we are celebrating our Midwife of the Year - Dana Majman. Dana has shown amazing growth and development from a Graduate to a proficient all-round Midwife in the three years she has been with us at Jessie McPherson. Director Clinical Services, Jennine Harbrow and Maternity Unit Manager, Janelle Gridley explain why Dana won the Jessie McPherson Private Hospital Midwife of the Year Award 2023. “Dana joined the Jessie Maternity Team in April 2019. During this time securing a graduate placement was quite challenging and Dana missed out on a ‘computer-matched placement’ at all the hospitals she had applied to, this was due to there being too many new midwives and not enough vacancies – if only we had that problem now! During her interview for a placement at Jessie McPherson, Dana said “I just need you to give me a go and I will make sure you won’t regret it” – and that is absolutely 100% true. Dana is hard working, dedicated, punctual and prepared to go the extra mile for both her patients and colleagues. Dana has developed and consolidated her clinical skills and knowledge very quickly by working four days a week, she is keen to learn and become confident in all aspects of antenatal and postnatal care of women and families, including Special Care Nursery. Dana is a quick learner and always keen to expand her knowledge. She has persisted in this so consistently that she is now able to work in whatever role is required of her, including attending Elective Caesarean Sections. In the last year, Dana has mentored a number of new staff and midwifery students who find her to be a great educator and role model. Dana is loved by families and is respectful and caring. Her manner of teaching parents is gentle but comprehensive and never hurried or dismissive. Being a Mum to three boys outside of work means she rarely gets time to herself or time to be pampered but also means she can be a midwife who speaks from experience and portrays integrity."
