Every morning, rain or shine, Satyen Pandhare can be found powering around the parks and streets of Carlsbad. On weekdays, he clocks up around four and a half miles after his 5:00 am meditation; on weekends, this increases to around eight miles a day. “I am blessed in that I live right next to a public park and only three miles from the ocean, so I have some beautiful spaces to walk around. Starting my day in this way is soothing. It’s the time in the day that I use to gain clarity of thought.” “This outdoor exercise, and my meditation, help me maintain a positive outlook on life, and a strong mental and physical state of being.” Satyen’s working life began in Pune for Magic Software. “I was hired in the R&D team. When the company that Hansen acquire (Irdeto), was looking for programmers who knew Magic Software and would be open to moving to the Netherlands, I jumped at the chance and my wife and I spent the next three years based there, fulfilling our cultural curiosity, travelling and immersing ourselves in different places and cuisines – and building our knowledge of wines.” Satyen moved to the United States in 2001 with the company, and welcomed two sons there, now aged 22 and 18. In 2013, Hansen acquired Irdeto and since then, Satyen has performed range of leadership roles within the Delivery team. “Typically, people change jobs for new opportunities. Not me! I have been blessed to have not less than ten roles over the past 20 phenomenal years with Hansen (and Irdeto) – all stretching me, enabling me to constantly grow and develop, and to importantly help shape and positively impact others along the way.” More recently, Satyen has been leading and driving a range of transformational initiatives across Hansen, including the newly acquired powercloud GmbH business. “Transformation initiatives succeed best when you have the support of the most senior and experiences leaders. Why? Because the systemic solutions required take time, they involve risk and bring with them a degree of uncertainty.” For anyone on a video call with Satyen, you quickly spot that he is an avid reader. “I think I am a life-long learner. I am constantly reading, exploring how I can improve and how I can help support and inspire our next generation of leaders. Yet my days don’t allow for as much traditional reading as they used to, so while I still have many physical books, I have also embraced audiobooks.” “Now my walks often involve me working through my latest ‘read’ or listening to a podcast.”
