On Friday 7 June, our South Bank campus was buzzing with excitement as 150 attendees gathered at our Research Showcase to witness the GBS 3 Minute Thesis final, proudly sponsored by UniSuper.    The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition challenges candidates to succinctly describe their research within 3 minutes. Huge congratulations to our 3MT prize recipients who will go on to represent GBS at the Griffith University final on 20 August:   🏆 Winner: Alieena Mathew (Department of Marketing)  🥈 Runner-Up: Dananjani Basnayake (Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics)  🏅 People’s Choice: Emily Siqi Lu (Department of Tourism, Sport and Hotel Management)    A big thank you to our esteemed panel of judges:  Professor Chris Fleming Professor Paula Brough  Professor Luis Cabrera Liz Brunetto (UniSuper) Nabeela Furtado (UniSuper)   The event also featured the Redsuit Poster Competition with 29 talented entrants. Candidates worked with the Queensland College of Art Liveworm Studio to create a poster that conveyed a clear message about their research to a non-expert audience.   Congratulations to the winners:  🏅 Winner: Victoria Lister (Department of Employment Relations and Human Resources)  🥈 2nd Place: Jessica. 🎉 Congratulations to our GBS researchers recently awarded ARC Linkage Project grants! 🎉 We are proud to announce that Dr Ferran Martinez i Coma (School of Government and International Relations) will lead one of the 72 new successful Linkage Projects. Collaborating with Professor Lisa Hill (The University of Adelaide), Associate Professor Rodrigo Praino (Flinders University), and the Electoral Commission of Queensland, the project Reducing the Informal Vote in Queensland Elections has received full funding of $342,344. This initiative will address the rise of informal votes in Queensland elections, aiming to combat the problem of wasted votes through a comprehensive study across 4 election periods. The project will provide a thorough analysis and propose remedies to reduce informal voting, representing the most complete study of its kind in any Western democracy. Congratulations also to Prof Paula Brough (WOW) who is part of a successful application led by the University of South Australia (Professor Michelle Tuckey and team), with colleagues from the University of Queensland. Their project, Cultivating systemic safety to prevent workplace sexual harassment, has been fully funded with $418,950. This project aims to understand and address the root causes of workplace sexual harassment, developing interventions to cultivate systemic safety. With 10 partner organizations, the project will provide evidence-based strategies to create harassment-resistant workplaces. 👏 Congrats to the researchers and their teams! 🎇 Congratulations to A/Prof Robin Roberts from Griffith Business School, one of only 11 researchers awarded a project in Australia’s national program to increase trust in Australian agricultural exports to South-East Asia. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) - Building Trust in Australian Agricultural Traceability and Credentials program is designed to build credibility and establish robust traceability credentials for Australian agriculture in Southeast Asia. Valued at $320,000 the project, 'Evaluation and resource development to advance Australian agriculture export traceability study of seafood and horticulture trade with Vietnam' will run over two years (2024-2026). About the Project:  Australia’s strong bilateral relationship with Vietnam has highlighted a significant opportunity for Australian agricultural exporters. Vietnam’s rising incomes, increasingly wealthy consumers, and changing consumer preferences drive demand for premium quality food products. Australia is well placed to meet this growing demand. Robin will lead the research study, with project collaborators from Flinders University and TraceVerified which will showcase and communicate the role of data-enabled and evidence-based market-focused traceability systems and tools for agricultural industries to achieve sustainable export development in Southeast Asia. A team of Griffith University tourism experts has secured an $8.2 million Commonwealth grant in partnership with the Etheridge Shire as part of the Federal Government’s Growing Regions Program.   “The Savannah Way is a major north Australian passage of travel which connects Cairns to Broome and has the potential to become one of the great tourism driving routes in the world, Australia’s route 66," said Griffith Institute for Tourism Professor Brent Moyle   The grant awarded to Etheridge Shire Council resulted from a four-year collaboration between the Griffith Institute for Tourism (GIFT), Council, the local community, and key stakeholder groups.   The $8.2 million grant embeds $800,000 for GIFT research and engagement led by Associate Professor Anna Kralj, Professor Brent D. Moyle, Professor Karine Dupre, and Dr Truc H. Le, PhD FHEA.   The grant will fund the construction of tourism infrastructure along the Savannah Way to attract travellers to the region and will include: - An extension to the Terrestrial Centre in Georgetown to showcase the largest collection of minerals in the southern hemisphere. - Construction of a bird sanctuary viewing hub, boardwalk and bird viewing tower at Cumberland Dam. - Development of the Einasleigh People’s Museum at Copperfield Gorge. - The creation of ‘Our Elders Trail’ in Georgetown.
