Why a 3D velocity model is a must-have in your exploration toolkit. One critical component to improving the confidence in detecting alteration systems related to porphyry copper deposits is a 3D velocity model. Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) offers a 3D view of the seismic velocity structure of the subsurface. Since velocity is linked to properties such as rock density, structure, and mineralogy, zones with strong alteration are seismically distinct from zones of less alteration. Refer to the diagram below from our collaboration with Waratah Minerals which is also highlighted in their ASX Release on 23 May 2024. ANT models can help provide context for electrical and potential field data, guide new data acquisition, including drilling and are therefore a powerful addition to the exploration toolkit. In our recent work in Australia's major porphyry copper district, the Macquarie Arc of New South Wales, we found that alteration zones have lower seismic velocity than unaltered volcanic country rock and of deeper, possible source intrusions. Our geoscience team discusses this in detail in the latest technical paper, "Ambient Noise Tomography in Porphyry Copper Exploration: Possible Seismic Velocity Responses to Porphyry Alteration Systems." Discover how we’re teaming up with Inflection Resources Ltd. to pioneer the use of AI and space technology to accelerate copper exploration. Inflection Resources will deploy ExoSphere to survey approximately 1,800 km² in the Macquarie Arc. This survey aims to collect large-scale, 3D subsurface data to identify belt-scale architecture, including potential cross-arc structures. These insights are crucial for understanding fluid flow and the emplacement of large-scale intrusive bodies and mineral systems. How can we improve exploration in complex geological terranes, especially those buried beneath post-mineral cost? This question is at the heart of mineral exploration in the Macquarie Arc, an ancient volcanic terrane now preserved within the eastern Australian continent. The focus here is on porphyry copper-gold deposits along with related epithermal deposits, common in subduction-related volcanic arc settings. Fleet Space's geological team was out in the field recently, looking at the volcanic components of the Macquarie Arc. Many of the discussions on the outcrop centred on how the rock packages would appear in geophysical data sets, and in particular in Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) velocity models. Most exploration companies typically rely on potential field and electrical geophysical data types in their search for minerals. However, ANT adds a powerful dimension to 'standard’ geophysical methods by detecting surface architecture in 3D. By integrating potential field interpretations with the architecture provided by ExoSphere’s ANT models, we can reveal new insights into the subsurface distribution of lithology, alteration, and structure. We discuss these insights in our latest article derived from the Macquarie Arc field trip. Explore now 👉: https://hubs.la/Q02CXQby0
