🌟 What a night! Last Thursday the Electric Vehicle Council, in partnership with EnergyAustralia, hosted our initial member networking event dedicated to EV fleets in transition in Melbourne. As noted by MC for the night Ross De Rango, the #energy in the room was palpable. ⚡ A huge thank you to our outstanding speakers Renae Gasmier, Rohan Martin, Mike Costello, and Jack Kotlyar. It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce members to EVC CEO Samantha Johnson, and for the entire EVC team to get together with the ever growing industry. 🤝 Thank you to everyone who joined us this time! This is just the beginning of our member networking events - next stop, Perth on 14 August at Western Power. #ElectricVehicles #TransportElectrification #Sustainability #IndustryNetworking #EVIndustry

After a great evening spent reconnecting with members in Melbourne, the EVC was delighted to appear before the Federal Parliamentary inquiry into the EV transition down in Canberra today. It's important to take stock of the enormous efforts being made across the industry and ensure that progress continues to electrify transport in Australia. ⚡ Key themes explored today included the rollout of charging infrastructure, the future of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), development of a second hand market for light vehicles, and the continued need to build education and awareness to support the transition. We look forward to hearing the outcomes of the inquiry in coming months. #electricvehicles #transport #policy #sustainabletransport Samantha Johnson Ross De Rango Natalie Thompson

EVC CEO Samantha Johnson was pleased to participate in the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (#NVES) industry workshop held in Canberra yesterday. This important event offered an opportunity to discuss the development of IT systems and regulatory frameworks essential for the NVES’s success, and the collaborative efforts required from industry stakeholders and government to meet the January 2025 implementation deadline. We look forward to continuing to engage constructively with our members, industry, and government to ensure the NVES is delivered effectively and on schedule. #electricvehicles #sustainabletransport

Congratulations to IKEA Australia on this major commitment to decarbonising #electric #trucks in Australia! Freight is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in Australia, and there is a need for supportive government policy at both the federal and state/territory levels to accelerate the transition to low and zero-emission vehicles. As demonstrated by IKEA's significant investment in electric truck charging infrastructure across the country, industry is ready, willing and able to start making the switch but we must get those policy settings right.

Today we’ve announced a major step forward in turning IKEA Australia customer deliveries electric: a multi-million-dollar investment into new charging infrastructure dedicated to delivery vehicles.   In partnership with JET Charge, EV charging and energy management systems are being installed at all IKEA stores across the country and our central distribution warehouse in Sydney.   There’ll be charging for six electric trucks or vans at each IKEA store, giving drivers an easy, accessible, low-cost charging option.   With 40% of truck deliveries to IKEA Australia customers now made via a zero emissions vehicle, supporting our delivery partners to electrify in innovative new ways like this is one way we’re trying to address challenges the freight and logistics industry faces.  Read more: https://lnkd.in/gS9fWEvW #zeroemissions #electricvehicles #EVdelivery

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the resignation of Behyad Jafari as the CEO and Samantha Johnson as Interim CEO of the Electric Vehicle Council. Mr Jafari has led the EVC over the past eight years, which have marked a tremendous amount of change for the Australian EV industry. “I am hugely proud of the historic outcomes our members and our team of experts have achieved to support our mission of accelerating the electrification of Australian transport,” Mr Jafari said. “A sustainable and prosperous Australia requires an electric fleet and we are now established on that path. Seeing New Vehicle Efficiency Standards passed into law represented a major milestone for our industry, and I think it also created  a natural time for me to step aside and let another leader continue to build the EVC and the industry into the future. “We now have an incredible team of leaders and experts at the EVC so I’m very comfortable leaving knowing the sector is in good hands.” Mr Jafari also thanked Ms Johnson for taking on the role of Interim CEO. “I’m thrilled we have been able to attract a senior executive of Samantha’s experience and ability,” Mr Jafari said. “Samantha is one of only a few executives with experience in launching an automotive brand in Australia. “As Interim CEO, Samantha takes on the temporary role focused on working with the team and our members in refreshing the organisation, strategy and member value proposition of the EVC, as well as recruiting a permanent CEO.” Mr Jafari will continue to serve the EVC as an Adviser, supporting Ms Johnson in the transition until 31 July 2024.
