Congratulations to our long-time partner Qantas on the launch of its first Airbus A220, the beautiful Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa Art Aircraft that features Pitjantjatjara artist Maringka Baker’s artwork that tells the Creation story of the Two Sisters. Balarinji is proud to have designed this livery, working with Maringka and her family, Tjungu Palya Arts Centre, Copyright Agency, Qantas and Airbus. The 6th aircraft in the Flying Art Series, is a great example of how Indigenous design can influence how we think about ourselves as Australians, and how we can experience the strength, integrity and beauty of Aboriginal culture through best practice collaboration with artists and communities. A very special #NRW occasion at Qantas HQ last week where our founders Ros Moriarty and John Moriarty got to hear from the extraordinary panel of Professor Megan Davis, Gail Mabo and Sidney Saltner moderated by Ebony Williams. Balarinji's partnership with Qantas began in 1983 when the airline sold Balarinji’s Aboriginal-themed silk and superfine wool scarves on board. We went on to work together across four decades on Qantas’ long-running uniform textile, Wirriyarra, and six Qantas-Balarinji Art Aircrafts, including Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa, launched in February 2024.
