📣 We have a new ‘Instruction to Surveyors’ (ITS) on methods for inspection of foam buoyancy, hull voids and fuel tank compartments. This ITS will assist accredited marine surveyors when conducting surveys and inspections of domestic commercial vessels. It can also inform boat builders, designers and some operators. The methods outlined relate to 10-yearly renewal survey requirements in the Surveyor Accreditation Guidance Manual Part 2. This ITS is applicable to vessels with sealed underdeck chambers that are foam filled to avoid complete flooding. Read the ITS ➡ https://lnkd.in/gq9DnJKn #AMSA #SafeSeas #MarineSurveyors

A CO2 cylinder leak in a confined space is a life-threatening risk to crew and passengers on board ⚠️ Carbon dioxide is a naturally occurring type of hazardous gas that is invisible, odourless, and tasteless. Passenger vessels commonly carry carbon dioxide in CO2 cylinders, as they are used for hospitality purposes to carbonate drinks such as post-mix, ciders, and beer. Invisible gases, real risks. A vessel’s operational risk assessment must identify and provide mitigation steps for the risks presented by hazardous gases on board. At 9:15 am (NT time) this morning, we were contacted by CareFlight Northern Territory (NT) about a crew member on a fishing vessel who had been bitten by a sea snake and needed urgent medical evacuation. The trawler was about 360km south-west of Darwin in Joseph Bonaparte Gulf. We tasked the LifeFlight rescue helicopter from Truscott Airbase in WA, which arrived at the location at 11:45 am (NT time) and winched the patient from the trawler. The LifeFlight helicopter has transported the crew member to Truscott, where they will be met by a Royal Flying Doctor Service aircraft for onward transfer to Broome for treatment.
