Fantastic to speak to mayors and deputy mayors from #councils across Australia about their experiences, ideas and learnings from our 30th National General Assembly this year. It was a highly productive week of networking, #engagement and meetings with political leaders, decision-makers and key stakeholders to discuss how #localgovernment can build better, stronger and more vibrant #communities. Thanks to everyone who attended this year's historic #NGA24 in #Canberra. We look forward to seeing you again next year. #localgov

ICYMI here's a replay of our President Cr Linda Scott (GAICD) speaking at the National Press Club of Australia on 2 July, as part of the #NGA24. In her address 'Future-proofing local government', Linda highlighted how #councils improve the lives of all Australians every day in ways that other levels of #government simply can’t. https://lnkd.in/g8cpDV9j #localgov #NPC #auspol

Australian Local Government Association reposted this
Australians have the right to expect their governments will work together, in the public interest. Irrespective of political party, place or personality, it’s the role of any elected figure to serve with integrity for the public good. It’s been quite a week - taking Australia’s 537 local governments to Federal Parliament to ensure we’re better delivering for every community - including our City of Sydney - for the future. Thank you to our new Governor General, Her Excellency Sam Mostyn, for speaking to Australia’s local governments in her first public event in her new role. Thanks to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, his whole Cabinet and Government, the Opposition and public service for working with us, this week, to tackle the problems of our communities and to carve a better future for all our nation’s places.

Thank you Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Minister Catherine King and Minister Kristy McBain MP for bringing local government back to the table at today's Australian Council of Local Government Forum
Working with local governments, we can get important things done. With representatives from every council across Australia in Canberra this week, that's what we're doing. Were providing important funding to help them deliver services that matter to you.

Congratulations to all of the councils recognised last night with National Awards for Local Government!
Local governments are the lifeblood of Australia’s cities, towns and regions. The work they do in communities across our country should be recognised and celebrated. I was delighted to present the National Awards for Local Government with Minister Kristy McBain tonight in Parliament House.

Thank you to the 1,200 mayors, shire presidents, councillors and council staff who joined us this week in Canberra for our historic 30th National General Assembly. This year's event once again concluded with the Assembly endorsing a communique, capturing the presentations and discussions over the past few days.

It's been another memorable day at #NGA24 in #Canberra. Delegates have enjoyed hearing from a range of guest speakers and engaging panel sessions. Importantly, #localgovernment leaders - mayors, shire presidents and deputy mayors - have the opportunity to network and engage with their peers to discuss key #local issues, ideas and challenges. We also sincerely thank this year's corporate partners and sponsors for their outstanding support of the 30th #NGA. We look forward to the second motions debate session this afternoon. #NGA24 #localgov

Today we've heard from Demographics Group co-founder Simon Kuestenmacher discussing intergenerational #equity and fairness, in a #localgovernment context. We also had an engaging #NGA24 panel session on addressing intergenerational trust with five key speakers. This afternoon we look forward to hearing from urbanist Stephen Yarwood. #NGA24 #localgov

Welcome to all #localgovernment delegates, leaders and sponsors for our final day of #NGA24 in #Canberra. We have another jam-packed line up of thought-provoking speakers and presenters, as well as the second session of #council motions and debate this afternoon. This year’s 30th NGA will also lead into the Australian Council of Local Government (ACLG) tomorrow. We are delighted the ACLG is back again this year, and sincerely thank the Albanese Government for working with #councils to deliver better outcomes for our #communities. #localgov #NGA24

Fantastic to have well-known writer, commentator and presenter Annabel Crabb discuss #localgovernment and #civic engagement at the #NGA24 this afternoon. She joined our President Linda Scott (GAICD) to also discuss the importance of engaging youth in the democratic process in #Australia. Delegates also started debating a record number of #council #motions which is an annual tradition at the NGA. #NGA24 #localgov
