  • To write its report, the Multicultural Framework Review Panel travelled the length and breadth of the country. It listened to Australian voices in schools, sports and service clubs, places of worship, the arts, culture and business. To reach as many people as possible, the Panel published messages about the Multicultural Framework Review in 35 community languages and received 126 submissions – nearly a sixth of the total received – in languages other than English. Among many important insights, the Review notes the vital role of education, English language learning and effective translation services to support all Australians to enjoy the benefits of this country. Now, a summary of the Multicultural Framework Review report is also available in 33 languages, in addition to English. This is just one way the Australian Government is already taking action to improve inclusion and invest in multicultural communities, informed by the Review. • New laws starting 1 July 2024 target employers who exploit temporary migrants. Workplace exploitation covers a range of behaviour, from underpaying workers, threatening to cancel their visa, pressuring them to accept poor living conditions or accept unwanted sexual acts. It is important you get help if you are being exploited at work – reporting early will help you to resolve the issue, and it might also protect other workers from exploitation. You can report anonymously. To find out more about the new laws and how to report exploitation, go to https://lnkd.in/g8xagP7U.

  • Introducing the Multicultural Framework Review. This is a comprehensive and compelling report, the first major examination of the state of our Australian multiculturalism in a generation. The Review looked at ways for the Government and the community to work together to support a cohesive multicultural society, and advance a multicultural Australia for all. In its consultations, the Review Panel identified Australian communities as the driving force behind the success and resilience of multiculturalism. Australians’ embrace of acceptance and tolerance showed that multiculturalism was not just a social policy, but a lived experience. The Review Panel has set out a roadmap to guide us with its key principles of connection, identity and belonging, and inclusion. We invite all Australians to read the report and the Government’s Response, and to contribute to this vital debate about Australia’s future. The Review is available online at: https://lnkd.in/gs5JSeJs

  • How can we work together to make sure Australia is a welcoming and inclusive place? The Multicultural Framework Review gives us some great ideas about how we can continue to advance a multicultural Australia for all. The Review’s Panel has consulted with more 1430 individuals and 750 organisations, including community groups, in more than 200 consultation events in metro and regional locations Australia-wide. It also received 796 submissions through written, audio or video message format, of which 126 were in languages other than English. This was a new and innovative approach to fielding submissions. With so many contributions, the Panel will be able to deliver a significant stocktake of the health of our multicultural society, and provide the first major examination of the state of our Australian multiculturalism in over 50 years.
