Info

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is the world's largest regional security organization. Its 57 participating States span the geographical area from Vancouver to Vladivostok. Born in the early 1970s as the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe, it served as an important multilateral forum for dialogue between East and West during the Cold War. It was also instrumental in tackling the numerous security challenges that arose in Europe after the collapse of communism. Today, the OSCE, its institutions, and its 16 field operations are actively involved in a broad range of security- and stability-related activities including election monitoring, human rights, legislative reform, rule of law and media freedom, as well as combating human trafficking, terrorism and the smuggling of small arms and light weapons.

Co-operation. Compromise. Consensus. These are terms you hear often at the OSCE. But what do they really mean? Last week in Tbilisi 🇬🇪, we brought together students from across Central Asia and the South Caucasus to find out. Throughout the week they tested their negotiation skills in a simulation exercise and deepened their understanding of the OSCE’s work.

💪 Bold choices bring about big changes. 🎉 Albanian hip-hop artist Big Basta broke into the top 10 of the Albanian charts with his song “Leji armët“ meaning ”lay down your weapons”. The production was a collaboration of Big Basta, the OSCE Presence in Albania, the Albanian Ministry of Interior and the Albanian Police. ❗The popular hip-hop artist said in an interview, "Today is the day to show courage by saying 'no' to guns. Our society needs to let go of using weapons out of hot-headedness. This song is primarily a message to the young people of Albania, telling them that the right way is communication, not guns. The solution is not violence." More on how the OSCE helps Albania with the misuse of small arms 👉 https://bit.ly/4fcudGQ

🌐 By fostering collaborative networks, we continue to advocate for the rights and well-being of women and girls impacted by conflict. From July 16 to 18, 2024, the OSCE Gender Issues Programme held its 3rd exchange on enhancing protection and response to violence against women and girls in conflict. This flagship initiative gathered prominent women activists and leaders from Ukraine, Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over three transformative days, participants engaged in discussions on sustaining long-term support for GBV survivors, ensuring it is inclusive and needs-based. #WINGenderEquality #EVAWG Lara Scarpitta

🍃☀️ Women only make up 32% of the global labour force in renewable energy. Our Mentoring Program on Empowering Central Asian Women in Renewable Energy is one of many OSCE’s initiatives that works cross-dimensionally to create equal, thriving & safe societies. 👩🔋⚡ Read the activity report 📈👇

🌳🔥 Climate change, land-use, and population shifts are altering fire regimes worldwide. Increased drought 🏜️, high temps 🥵, and strong winds 🌬️ are making fire seasons hotter, drier, and longer. To address climate-related security risks and help fight forest fires in protected areas in South-Eastern Europe, we equipped park management authorities with fire suppression equipment.🧯👩🚒 👉 https://bit.ly/3Lq44GX
