We describe a general formalism based on the partial-wave decomposition to compute the iterative $s$-channel discontinuity of four-point amplitudes at any loop order. As an application, we focus on the low-energy expansions of type I and II superstring amplitudes. Besides providing new results for their leading and sub-leading logarithmic contributions beyond genus one, our approach elucidates the general structure of non-analytic threshold terms. In the case of open strings, the use of orthogonal colour projectors allows us to efficiently compute all contributions from different worldsheet topologies at a given loop order.

The late time limit of the power spectrum for heavy (principal series) fields in de Sitter space yields a series of polynomial terms with complex scaling dimensions. Such scaling behavior is expected to result from an associated operator with a complex dimension. In a free theory, these complex dimensions are known to match the constraints imposed by unitarity on the space of states. Yet, perturbative corrections to the scaling behavior of operators are naively inconsistent with unitary evolution of the quantum fields in dS. This paper demonstrates how to compute one-loop corrections to the scaling dimensions that appear in the two point function from the field theory description in terms of local operators. We first show how to evaluate these anomalous dimensions using Mellin space, which has the feature that it naturally accommodates a scaleless regulator. We then explore the consequences for the Soft de Sitter Effective Theory (SdSET) description that emerges in the long wavelength limit. Carefully matching between the UV and SdSET descriptions requires the introduction of novel non-dynamical "operators" in the effective theory. This is not only necessary to reproduce results extracted from the Källén-Lehmann representation (that use the space of unitary states directly), but it is also required by general arguments that invoke positivity.

In this letter, we consider a positive geometry conjectured to encode the loop integrand of four-point stress-energy correlators in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills. Beginning with four lines in twistor space, we characterize a positive subspace to which an $\ell$-loop geometry is attached. The loop geometry then consists of $\ell$ lines in twistor space satisfying positivity conditions among themselves and with respect to the base. Consequently, the \textit{loop geometry} can be viewed as fibration over a \textit{tree geometry}. The fibration naturally dissects the base into chambers, in which the degree-$4 \ell$ loop form is unique and distinct for each chamber. Interestingly, up to three loops, the chambers are simply organized by the six ordering of $x^2_{12}x^2_{34}$, $x^2_{14}x^2_{23}$ and $x^2_{13}x^2_{24}$. We explicitly verify our conjecture by computing the loop-forms in terms of a basis of planar conformal integrals up to $\ell=3$, which indeed yield correct loop integrands for the four-point correlator.

In spacetime dimensions of 4D (i.e., 3+1D) and higher, topological orders exhibit spatially extended excitations like loops and membranes, which support diverse topological data characterizing braiding, fusion, and shrinking processes, despite the absence of anyons. Our understanding of these topological data remains less mature compared to 3D, where anyons have been extensively studied and can be fully described through diagrammatic representations. Inspired by recent advancements in field theory descriptions of higher-dimensional topological orders, this paper systematically constructs diagrammatic representations for 4D and 5D topological orders, generalizable to higher dimensions. We introduce elementary diagrams for fusion and shrinking processes, treating them as vectors in fusion and shrinking spaces, respectively, and build complex diagrams by combining these elementary diagrams. Within these vector spaces, we design unitary operations represented by \(F\)-, \(Δ\)-, and \(Δ^2\)-symbols to transform between different bases. We uncover \textit{pentagon equations} and \textit{(hierarchical) shrinking-fusion hexagon equations} that impose constraints on the legitimate forms of these unitary operations. We conjecture that all anomaly-free higher-dimensional topological orders must satisfy these conditions, with any violations indicating a quantum anomaly. This work opens promising avenues for future research, including the exploration of diagrammatic representations involving braiding and implications for noninvertible symmetries and Symmetry Topological Field Theory.

The effective field theory of single-field inflation characterizes the inflationary epoch in terms of a pattern of symmetry breaking. An operator acquires a time-dependent vacuum expectation value, defining a preferred spatial slicing. In the absence of dynamical gravity, the fluctuations around the time-dependent background are described by the Goldstone boson associated with this symmetry breaking process. With gravity, the Goldstone is eaten by the metric, becoming the scalar metric fluctuation. In this paper, we will show that in general single-field inflation, the statistics of scalar metric fluctuations are given by the statistics of this Goldstone boson decoupled from gravity up to corrections that are controlled as an expansion in slow-roll parameters. This even holds in the presence of additional parameters, like the speed of sound, that naively enhance the impact of the gravitational terms. In the process, we derive expressions for leading and sub-leading gravitational corrections to all-orders in the Goldstone boson.

In this work, we study the analytic properties of S-matrix for unstable particles, which is defined as the residues on the unphysical sheets where unstable poles reside. We demonstrate that anomalous thresholds associated with UV physics are unavoidable for unstable particles. This is in contrast to stable particles, where the anomalous thresholds are due to IR physics, set by the scale of the external kinematics. As a result, any dispersive representation for the amplitude will involve contributions from these thresholds that are not computable from the IR theory, and thus invalidate the general positivity bound. Indeed using toy models, we explicitly demonstrate that the four-derivative couplings for unstable particles can become negative, violating positivity bounds even for non-gravitational theories. Along the way, we show that contributions from anomalous thresholds in a given channel can be captured by the double discontinuity of that channel.

As an application, we compute corrections to the gravitational Compton amplitude from the exchange of states corresponding to such absorption effects. In the super-extremal limit, the corrections generate the non-analytic $|a|$-dependent contribution of the Compton amplitude found in ref.\cite{Bautista:2022wjf}.

The optical characteristics of three types of black holes (BHs) surrounded by a thin accretion disk are discussed, namely the Schwarzschild BH, Bardeen BH, and Hayward BH. We calculate the deflection angle of light as it traverses the vicinity of each BH using numerical integration and semi-analytical methods, revealing that both approaches can effectively elucidate the deflection of light around the BH. We investigate the optical appearance of the accretion disk and its corresponding observational images at various viewing angles, discovering that the luminosity in the region near the BH on the inner side of the accretion disk is higher than that on the outer side owing to higher material density in closer proximity to the BH. We observe a significant accumulation of brightness on the left side of the accretion disk, attributed to the motion of matter and geometric effects. Our findings emphasize the significant influence of the observation inclination angle on the observed outcomes. An increase in the observation inclination angle results in the separation of higher-order images. With the improvement in EHT observation accuracy, we believe that the feature of a minimal distance between the innermost region of the direct image of the Hayward BH and the outermost region of the secondary image can be used as an indicator for identifying Hayward BHs.

We study the space of open string effective field theories by combining the constraint of unitarity and monodromy relations for the four-point amplitude. The latter is a reflection of an underlying disk correlator with singularities at the boundary. By assuming maximal susy the resulting bootstrap isolates Wilson coefficients to at least $10^{-4}$ of the Type-I superstring. Furthermore, utilizing our geometric approach, we obtain the critical dimension of 10 from the low energy coefficients alone. Remarkably, relaxing SUSY but requiring the massless states to carry four-dimensional helicities, the Wilson coefficients are again constrained to superstring values within $10^{-4}$. Thus we conclude that type-I string theory is the unique solution to the monodromy bootstrap with either maximal susy or vector external states. We also introduce Tachyons to the bootstrap and demonstrate for the scattering of external vectors, the bosonic and superstring span the allowed region. Allowed regions for closed string effective field theories are obtained by implementing the KLT relations.

Effective field theories in flat space and in anti-de Sitter space are constrained by causality and unitarity, often in the form of positivity bounds. Similar bounds have been harder to demonstrate in cosmological backgrounds, where the roles of unitarity and causality are more obscure. Fortunately, the expansion of the universe ensures that late-time cosmological correlators are effectively classical and the role of unitarity is played by classical statistical inequalities. For multi-field inflation, the resulting positivity constraints have long been known in terms of the Suyama-Yamaguchi inequality. In this paper, we demonstrate that similar statistical bounds imply nontrivial constraints for massive fields in the early universe. We show that any real anomalous dimensions for principal series fields in de Sitter space must be positive. We also derive a limit on the amplitude of oscillatory signals from inflation, including those arising in cosmological collider physics. Finally, we demonstrate that these constraints manifest themselves directly in the two-point statistics of matter and galaxies that will be measured in upcoming surveys.

We explore the geometry behind the modular bootstrap and its image in the space of Taylor coefficients of the torus partition function. In the first part, we identify the geometry as an intersection of planes with the convex hull of moment curves on $R^+{\otimes}\mathbb{Z}$, with boundaries characterized by the total positivity of generalized Hankel matrices. We phrase the Hankel constraints as a semi-definite program, which has several advantages, such as constant computation time with increasing central charge. We derive bounds on the gap, twist-gap, and the space of Taylor coefficients themselves. We find that if the gap is above $Δ^*_{gap}$, where $\frac{c{-}1}{12}<Δ^*_{gap}< \frac{c}{12}$, all coefficients become bounded on both sides and kinks develop in the space. In the second part, we propose an analytic method of imposing the integrality condition for the degeneracy number in the spinless bootstrap, which leads to a non-convex geometry. We find that even at very low derivative order this condition rules out regions otherwise allowed by bootstraps at high derivative order.

As a series of work about 5D (spacetime) topological orders, here we employ the path-integral formalism of 5D topological quantum field theory (TQFT) established in Zhang and Ye, JHEP 04 (2022) 138 to explore non-Abelian fusion rules, hierarchical shrinking rules and quantum dimensions of particle-like, loop-like and membrane-like topological excitations in 5D topological orders. To illustrate, we focus on a prototypical example of twisted $BF$ theories that comprise the twisted topological terms of the $BBA$ type. First, we classify topological excitations by establishing equivalence classes among all gauge-invariant Wilson operators. Then, we compute fusion rules from the path-integral and find that fusion rules may be non-Abelian; that is, the fusion outcome can be a direct sum of distinct excitations. We further compute shrinking rules. Especially, we discover exotic hierarchical structures hidden in shrinking processes of 5D or higher: a membrane is shrunk into particles and loops, and the loops are subsequently shrunk into a direct sum of particles. We obtain the algebraic structure of shrinking coefficients and fusion coefficients. We compute the quantum dimensions of all excitations and find that sphere-like membranes and torus-like membranes differ not only by their shapes but also by their quantum dimensions. We further study the algebraic structure that determines anomaly-free conditions on fusion coefficients and shrinking coefficients. Besides $BBA$, we explore general properties of all twisted terms in $5$D. Together with braiding statistics reported before, the theoretical progress here paves the way toward characterizing and classifying topological orders in higher dimensions where topological excitations consist of both particles and spatially extended objects.

In this paper, we take a major step towards the construction and applications of an all-loop, all-multiplicity amplituhedron for three-dimensional planar $\mathcal{N}=6$ Chern-Simons matter theory, or the $\textit{ABJM amplituhedron}$. We show that by simply changing the overall sign of the positive region of the original amplituhedron for four-dimensional planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills (sYM) and performing a symplectic reduction, only three-dimensional kinematics in the middle sector of even-multiplicity survive. The resulting form of the geometry, combined with its parity images, gives the full loop integrand. This simple modification geometrically enforces the vanishing of odd-multiplicity cuts, and manifests the correct soft cuts as well as two-particle unitarity cuts. Furthermore, the so-called ``bipartite structures" of four-point all-loop negative geometries also directly generalize to all multiplicities. We introduce a novel approach for triangulating loop amplituhedra based on the kinematics of the tree region, resulting in local integrands tailored to ``prescriptive unitarity". This construction sheds fascinating new light on the interplay between loop and tree amplituhedra for both ABJM and $\mathcal{N}=4$ sYM: the loop geometry demands that the tree region must be dissected into $\textit{chambers}$, defined by the simultaneous positivity of maximal cuts. The loop geometry is then the ``fibration" of the tree region. Using the new construction, we give explicit results of one-loop integrands up to ten points and two-loop integrands up to eight points by computing the canonical form of ABJM loop amplituhedron.

The convergence and analytic extension result needed to formulate this conjecture and some consequences on such shifted pseudo-$q$-traces were proved by Fiordalisi in [F1] and [F2] using the method developed in [H2]. The method that we use to prove this conjecture is based on the theory of the associative algebras $A^{N}(V)$ for $N\in \mathbb{N}$, their graded modules and their bimodules introduced and studied by the author in [H8] and [H9]. This modular invariance result gives a construction of $C_2$-cofinite genus-one logarithmic conformal field theories from the corresponding genus-zero logarithmic conformal field theories.

Our results show that an increase in the inclination angle leads to a more pronounced separation of the images. We consider the gravitational redshift and present the redshift distribution of the direct image while illustrating the flux distribution. We observe that the direct image exhibits blueshift and redshift simultaneously, and the asymmetry of the flux distribution increases with the inclination angle. We report the triton ($t$) production in mid-rapidity ($|y| <$ 0.5) Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$= 7.7--200 GeV measured by the STAR experiment from the first phase of the beam energy scan at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The nuclear compound yield ratio ($\mathrm{N}_t \times \mathrm{N}_p/\mathrm{N}_d^2$), which is predicted to be sensitive to the fluctuation of local neutron density, is observed to decrease monotonically with increasing charged-particle multiplicity ($dN_{ch}/dη$) and follows a scaling behavior. The $dN_{ch}/dη$ dependence of the yield ratio is compared to calculations from coalescence and thermal models. Enhancements in the yield ratios relative to the coalescence baseline are observed in the 0\%-10\% most central collisions at 19.6 and 27 GeV, with a significance of 2.3$σ$ and 3.4$σ$, respectively, giving a combined significance of 4.1$σ$. The enhancements are not observed in peripheral collisions or model calculations without critical fluctuation, and decreases with a smaller $p_{T}$ acceptance. The physics implications of these results on the QCD phase structure and the production mechanism of light nuclei in heavy-ion collisions are discussed.

We derive a new soft theorem that corresponds to the spontaneous breaking of Lorentz boosts. This is motivated by the dynamics of inflation in the sub-horizon (flat-space) limit, where spacetime becomes flat but Lorentz boosts are still broken. In this limit, the scattering amplitudes become sensible observables. We relate the soft emission of a Goldstone boson to the (non-relativistic) Lorentz boost of the hard scattering amplitudes. This is the on-shell avatar of the spontaneous breaking of Lorentz boosts, analogous to the Adler zero of pions in the chiral symmetry breaking. We comment on several applications to inflation, including the demonstration that Dirac-Born-Infeld Inflation is the unique theory that has an emergent Lorentz invariance when the boosts are spontaneously broken.

We propose an alternative route to stabilize magnetic skyrmion textures which does not require Dzyaloshinkii-Moriya interaction, magnetic anisotropy, or an external Zeeman field. Instead, it solely relies on the emergence of flux in the system's ground state. We discuss scenarios that lead to a nonzero flux, and identify the magnetic skyrmion ground states which become accessible in its presence. Moreover, we explore the chiral superconductors obtained for the surface states of a topological crystalline insulator when two types of magnetic skyrmion crystals coexist with a pairing gap. Our work opens perspectives for engineering topological superconductivity in a minimal fashion, and promises to unearth functional topological materials and devices which may be more compatible with electrostatic control than the currently explored skyrmion-Majorana platforms.

Being placed in a cavity is an effective way of reaching thermodynamic equilibrium for black holes. We investigate a Kerr-Newman black hole in a cavity as well as compare it with two reduced cases, i.e., a RN black hole in a cavity and a Kerr black hole in a cavity. We derive the quasi-local energy from the Hamiltonian, and construct the first law of thermodynamics accordingly. In a canonical ensemble, these black holes could undergo a van der Waals-like phase transition, which is very similar to that in AdS space. We further investigate the black holes' thermodynamic geometry, which is a powerful tool to diagnose microscopic interactions of a thermodynamic system. Our results show that in a cavity, although phase structures of these black holes are similar, their thermodynamic geometry show strong dissimilarities, implying that the microstructure of a black hole is sensitive to its states.

Focus is set on the less-considered dimensionless expansion parameter $λ/b$, where $λ$ is the massless particle's wavelength and $b$ is the impact parameter. Corrections in $λ/b$ start to appear from $\mathcal{O}(G^2)$, with leading correction terms tied to the gravitational Faraday effect, which is a special case of the Lense-Thirring effect. We compute the eikonal phase up to $\mathcal{O}(G^2)$ and extract spin effect on the scattering angle and time delay up to 14th order in spin. The gravitational Faraday effect at linear order in spin is reproduced by $λ/b$ correction terms, which we compute to higher orders in spin. We find that the equivalence principle, or universality, holds up to NLO for general spinning bodies, i.e. away from geometric optics limit. Furthermore, in the black hole limit, we confirm the absence of particular spin structure observed, along with the associated shift symmetry, and argue that it holds to arbitrary spin order at $\mathcal{O}(G^2)$ in the massless probe limit.

The space of Wilson coefficients of EFT that can be UV completed into consistent theories was recently shown to be described analytically by a positive geometry, termed the EFThedron. However, this geometry, as well as complementary numerical methods of semi-definite programming, have so far focused on the positivity of the partial wave expansion, which allows bounding only ratios of couplings. In this paper we describe how the unitarity upper bound of the partial waves can be incorporated. This new problem can be formulated in terms of the well known $L$-moment problem, which we generalize and solve from a geometrical perspective. We find the non-projective generalization of the EFThedron has an infinite number of non-linear facets, which in some cases have remarkably simple descriptions. We use these results to derive bounds on single couplings, finding that the leading derivative operators are bounded by unity, when normalized by the cut-off scale and loop factors. For general operators of mass dimension $2k$ we find the upper bound is heavily suppressed at large $k$, with an $1/k$ fall-off.

We review some main convergence results, conjectures and problems in the construction and study of conformal field theories using the representation theory of vertex operator algebras. We also review the related analytic extension results, conjectures and problems. We discuss the convergence and analytic extensions of products of intertwining operators (chiral conformal fields) and of $q$-traces and pseudo-$q$-traces of products of intertwining operators. We also discuss the convergence results related to the sewing operation and the determinant line bundle and a higher-genus convergence result. We then explain conjectures and problems on the convergence and analytic extensions in orbifold conformal field theory and in the cohomology theory of vertex operator algebras.

The analytic structure of non-Gaussian correlators in inflationary cosmologies has recently been proposed as a test of the quantum origin of structure in the universe. To further understand this proposal, we explore the analogous equal-time in-in correlators in flat space and show they exhibit the same features as their cosmological counterparts. The quantum vacuum is uniquely identified by in-in correlators with a total energy pole and no additional poles at physical momenta. We tie this behavior directly to the S-matrix and show that poles at physical momenta always arise from scattering of particles present in the initial state. We relate these flat-space in-in correlators to the probability amplitude for exciting multiple Unruh-de Witt detectors. Localizing the detectors in spacetime, through the uncertainty principle, provides the energy and momentum needed to excite the vacuum and explains the connection to cosmological particle production. In addition, the entanglement of these detectors provides a probe of the entangled state of the underlying field and connects the properties of the correlators to the range of entanglement of the detectors.

Provided that the non-electromagnetic part of the stress tensor of matter fields satisfies the null energy condition and the linear stability condition holds, we find that the black holes cannot be overcharged under the second-order perturbation approximation, which includes the self-force and finite-size effects. As a result, we conclude that the violation of Hubeny type never occurs and the WCCC holds for the topological RN-AdS black hole.

Four-particle tree-level scattering amplitudes in string theory are magically consistent with unitarity, reflected in the non-trivial fact that beneath the critical dimension, the residues of the amplitudes on massive poles can be expanded in partial waves with all positive coefficients. While this follows (rather indirectly) from the no-ghost theorem, the simplicity of the statement and its fundamental importance for the physical consistency of string theory begs for a more direct and elementary understanding. In this note we take a step in this direction by presenting a new expression for the partial wave coefficients of string amplitudes, given by surprisingly simple double/triple contour integrals for open/closed strings. This representation allows us to directly prove unitarity of all superstring theories in $D \leq 6$ spacetime dimensions, and can also be used to determine various asymptotics of the partial waves at large mass levels.

In this paper we study both projective and non-projective constraints on four-dimensional gravitational effective fields theories implied from unitarity, causality and crossing, assuming perturbative UV completions in $M_{\rm pl}$. We derive bounds on the Wilson coefficients of $R^3$ and $D^{2n}R^4$ from its dispersive representation, utilizing both numerical semi-definite programming and analytic geometry analysis. From the former, we derive projective bounds on ratios of couplings and observe accumulation point spectrum populating the boundary of the allowed region. For the latter we consider the non-projective geometry of the EFThedron, which we relate to the known $L$-moment problem in the literature. This allows us to move beyond positivity and incorporate the upper bound from unitarity of the imaginary parts of partial waves. This leads to sharp bounds on individual coefficients, which are of order unity when normalized with respect to the UV scale. Finally, the non-projective geometry also allows us to derive optimal bounds reflecting assumptions of low-spin dominance, improving previous results. We complement the analytic analysis with a simple linear programming approach that validates the bounds.

In this paper, we study the thermodynamics and phase transition of a BTZ black hole in a finite space region, namely a cavity. By imposing a temperature-fixed boundary condition on the wall of the cavity and evaluating the Euclidean action, we derive the thermodynamic quantities and then construct the first law of thermodynamics for a static and neutral BTZ black hole, a rotating BTZ black hole and a charged BTZ black hole, respectively. We prove that heat capacities of these three types of black holes are always non-negative. Considering a grand canonical ensemble, we find that the non-extreme rotating black hole and the charged black hole are locally thermodynamically stable by calculating the Hessian matrix of their internal energy. At the phase transition level, it shows that for the static and neutral BTZ black hole, the phase transition only exists between thermal AdS3 spacetime and the black hole. The temperature where the phase transition occurs is only determined by the cavity radius. For rotating and charged cases, there may exist an extra second-order phase transition between the black hole and the black hole-cavity merger state. The phase structure of a BTZ black hole in a cavity shows strong dissimilarities from that without the cavity.

The ever-increasing number of detections of gravitational waves (GWs) from compact binaries by the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors allows us to perform ever-more sensitive tests of general relativity (GR) in the dynamical and strong-field regime of gravity. We perform a suite of tests of GR using the compact binary signals observed during the second half of the third observing run of those detectors. We restrict our analysis to the 15 confident signals that have false alarm rates $\leq 10^{-3}\, {\rm yr}^{-1}$. In addition to signals consistent with binary black hole (BH) mergers, the new events include GW200115_042309, a signal consistent with a neutron star--BH merger. We find the residual power, after subtracting the best fit waveform from the data for each event, to be consistent with the detector noise. Additionally, we find all the post-Newtonian deformation coefficients to be consistent with the predictions from GR, with an improvement by a factor of ~2 in the -1PN parameter. We also find that the spin-induced quadrupole moments of the binary BH constituents are consistent with those of Kerr BHs in GR. We find no evidence for dispersion of GWs, non-GR modes of polarization, or post-merger echoes in the events that were analyzed. We update the bound on the mass of the graviton, at 90% credibility, to $m_g \leq 1.27 \times 10^{-23} \mathrm{eV}/c^2$. The final mass and final spin as inferred from the pre-merger and post-merger parts of the waveform are consistent with each other. The studies of the properties of the remnant BHs, including deviations of the quasi-normal mode frequencies and damping times, show consistency with the predictions of GR. In addition to considering signals individually, we also combine results from the catalog of GW signals to calculate more precise population constraints. We find no evidence in support of physics beyond GR.

The observed suppression of back-to-back pairs as a function of transverse momentum suggests nonlinear gluon dynamics arising at high parton densities. The larger suppression found in $p+$Au relative to $p+$Al collisions exhibits a dependence of the saturation scale, $Q_s^2$, on the mass number, $A$. A linear scaling of the suppression with $A^{1/3}$ is observed with a slope of $-0.09$ $\pm$ $0.01$.

In this paper, we introduce the momentum space amplituhedron for tree-level scattering amplitudes of ABJM theory. We demonstrate that the scattering amplitude can be identified as the canonical form on the space given by the product of positive orthogonal Grassmannian and the moment curve. The co-dimension one boundaries of this space are simply the odd-particle planar Mandelstam variables, while the even-particle counterparts are "hidden" as higher co-dimension boundaries. Remarkably, this space can be equally defined through a series of "sign flip" requirements of the projected external data, identical to "half" of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory (sYM). Thus in a precise sense the geometry for ABJM lives on the boundary of $\mathcal{N}=4$ sYM. We verify this relation through eight-points by showing that the BCFW triangulation of the amplitude tiles the amplituhedron. The canonical form is naturally derived using the Grassmannian formula for the amplitude in the $\mathcal{N}=4$ formalism for ABJM theory.

We constrain extremality corrections in different regimes subject to unitarity and causality constraints. In the asymptotic IR, we demonstrate that for any supersymmetric theory in flat space, and for all minimally coupled theories, logarithmic running at one loop pushes the Wilson coefficient of certain four-derivative operators to be larger at lower energies, guaranteeing the existence of sufficiently large black holes with $Q>M$. We identify two exceptional cases of nonsupersymmetric theories involving large numbers of light states and Planck-scale nonminimal couplings, in which the sign of the running is reversed, leading to black holes with negative corrections to $Q/M$ in the deep IR, but argue that these do not rule out extremal black holes as the requisite charged states for the WGC. We separately show that causality and unitarity imply that the leading threshold corrections to the effective action from integrating out massive states, in any weakly coupled theory, can be written as a sum of squares and is manifestly positive for black hole backgrounds. Quite beautifully, the shift in the extremal $Q/M$ ratio is directly proportional to the shift in the on-shell action, guaranteeing that these threshold corrections push $Q>M$ in compliance with the WGC. Our results apply for black holes with or without dilatonic coupling and charged under any number of ${\rm U}(1)$s.

We investigate gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric thin shell in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. Under the recently proposed 4D limit, we find that the collapsing shell will be bounced back at a small radius, without forming a singularity. This bouncing behavior is similar to those of a test particle and a homogeneous spherical dust star, in accordance with the expectation that the Gauss-Bonnet term will modify the small scale behavior of the Einstein gravity. We analyze the causal structure of the dynamic spacetime that represents the bouncing process, finding that the thin shell has an oscillation behavior on the Penrose diagram, which means that the thin shell results in a novel type of black hole with respect to observers outside the event horizon that the collapse forms. We also find that the weak cosmic censorship conjecture holds in this model. Further implications of such a regular gravitational collapse are discussed.

Recent studies have shown that minimal couplings for massive spinning particles, which in the classical limit reproduce the leading PM Kerr black hole dynamics, leads to an Eikonal S-matrix exhibiting spin-entanglement suppression. In this paper we trace this phenomenon to the suppression of spin-flipping components in the S-matrix, known to be the hallmark of minimal coupling in the ultra-relativistic limit. We further generalize the consideration to charged and $\mathcal{N}=4$ black holes, demonstrating that in both cases maximal suppression occurs at the extremal limit.

In this paper, we study the implications of bulk locality on the celestial amplitude. In the context of the four-point amplitude, the fact that the bulk S-matrix factorizes locally in poles of Mandelstam variables is reflected in the imaginary part of the celestial amplitude. In particular, on the real axis in the complex plane of the boost weight, the imaginary part of the celestial amplitude can be given as a positive expansion on the Poincaré partial waves, which are nothing but the projection of flat-space spinning polynomials onto the celestial sphere. Furthermore, we derive the celestial dispersion relation, which relates the imaginary part to the residue of the celestial amplitude for negative even integer boost weight. The latter is precisely the projection of low energy EFT coefficients onto the celestial sphere. We demonstrate these properties explicitly on the open and closed string celestial amplitudes. Finally, we give an explicit expansion of the Poincaré partial waves in terms of 2D conformal partial waves.

Recently it was proposed that the theory space of effective field theories with consistent UV completions can be described as a positive geometry, termed the EFThedron. In this paper we demonstrate that at the core, the geometry is given by the convex hull of the product of two moment curves. This makes contact with the well studied bi-variate moment problem, which in various instances has known solutions, generalizing the Hankel matrices of couplings into moment matrices. We are thus able to obtain analytic expressions for bounds, which perfectly match numerical results from semi-definite programing methods. Furthermore, we demonstrate that crossing symmetry in the IR imposes non-trivial constraints on the UV spectrum. In particular, permutation invariance for identical scalar scattering requires that any UV completion beyond the scalar sector must contain arbitrarily high spins, including at least all even spins $\ell\le28$, with the ratio of spinning spectral functions bounded from above, exhibiting large spin suppression. The spinning spectrum must also include at least one state satisfying a bound $m^2_{J}<M^2 \frac{( J^2-12) ( J^4 - 32 J^2 +204)}{8 (150 - 43 J^2 + 2 J^4)}$, where $J^2=\ell(\ell+1)$, and $M^2$ is the mass of the heaviest spin 2 state in the spectrum.

The Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) field theory in string theory is important and can provide the field of the universe's inflation. At the same time, it provides a causal mechanism for generating the original density perturbation, thereby providing the necessary density perturbation for existing the dense and sparse matter distributions of the universe. However, there is the paradox of the conversion of potential energy and kinetic energy in equal rights in string theory. Therefore, we give a new general DBI action, which enables the kinetic energy and potential energy in the action to be converted each other in equal rights, i.e., solving the paradox. Therefore, we deduce a new general DBI action, introduce it into inflationary cosmology to calculate various inflation parameters, further calculate the scalar perturbation spectrum and the tensor-scalar ratio, which are compared with Planck + WMAP9 + BAO data, the power spectrum predicted by the new general DBI inflation theory satisfies the CMB Experiment constraints, i.e., is consistent with the current theories and experimental observations. Consequently, the theory of this paper conforms to current experiments and is supplying the current theories, and also a new way of explaining the inflation of the universe.

(II) In a spin-glass model with random all-to-all interactions, starting from any product state the average entanglement entropy is bounded away from the maximum entropy at all times. We also extend these results to any unitary evolution with charge conservation and to the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model. Our results highlight the difference between the entanglement generated by (chaotic) Hamiltonian dynamics and that of random states, for the latter is nearly maximal.

We search for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo full O3 data set. Search results are presented for gravitational waves produced by cosmic string loop features such as cusps, kinks and, for the first time, kink-kink collisions.cA template-based search for short-duration transient signals does not yield a detection. We also use the stochastic gravitational-wave background energy density upper limits derived from the O3 data to constrain the cosmic string tension, $Gμ$, as a function of the number of kinks, or the number of cusps, for two cosmic string loop distribution models.cAdditionally, we develop and test a third model which interpolates between these two models. Our results improve upon the previous LIGO-Virgo constraints on $Gμ$ by one to two orders of magnitude depending on the model which is tested. In particular, for one loop distribution model, we set the most competitive constraints to date, $Gμ\lesssim 4\times 10^{-15}$.

Last year, the $Ξ(1620)$ state that is cataloged in the Particle Data Group (PDG) with only one star is reported again in the $Ξ^{-}π^{+}$ final state by the Belle Collaboration. Its properties not only the spectroscopy but also the decay width cannot be simply explained in the context of conventional constituent quark models. This intrigues an active discussion on the structure of this resonance. In this work, we study the radiative decays of the newly observed $Ξ(1620)$ assuming that it is a meson-baryon molecular state of $Λ\bar{K}$ and $Σ\bar{K}$ with spin-parity $J^P=1/2^{-}$ in our previous work. The partial decay widths of the $Λ\bar{K}-Σ\bar{K}$ molecular state into $Ξγ$ and $Ξπγ$ final states through hadronic loops are evaluated with the help of the effective Lagrangians. The partial widths for the $Ξ(1620)^0\toγΞ$ and $Ξ(1620)^0\toγΞπ$ are evaluated to be about $118.76-174.21$ KeV and $58.19-68.75$ eV, respectively, which may be accessible for the LHCb. If the $Ξ(1620)$ is $Λ\bar{K}-Σ\bar{K}$ molecule, the radiative transition strength $Ξ(1620)^0\toγ\bar{K}Λ$ is quite small and the decay width is of the order of 0.01 eV. Future experimental measurements of these processes can be useful to test the molecule interpretations of the $Ξ(1620)$.

We re-examine the constraints imposed by causality and unitarity on the low-energy effective field theory expansion of four-particle scattering amplitudes, exposing a hidden "totally positive" structure strikingly similar to the positive geometries associated with grassmannians and amplituhedra. This forces the infinite tower of higher-dimension operators to lie inside a new geometry we call the "EFThedron". We initiate a systematic investigation of the boundary structure of the EFThedron, giving infinitely many linear and non-linear inequalities that must be satisfied by the EFT expansion in any theory. We illustrate the EFThedron geometry and constraints in a wide variety of examples, including new consistency conditions on the scattering amplitudes of photons and gravitons in the real world.
