Although low-frequency quasiperiodic oscillations (LFQPOs) are commonly detected in the X-ray light curves of accreting black hole X-ray binaries, their origin still remains elusive. In this study, we conduct phase-resolved spectroscopy in a broad energy band for LFQPOs in MAXI J1820+070 during its 2018 outburst, utilizing Insight-HXMT observations. By employing the Hilbert-Huang transform method, we extract the intrinsic quasiperiodic oscillation (QPO) variability, and obtain the corresponding instantaneous amplitude, phase, and frequency functions for each data point. With well-defined phases, we construct QPO waveforms and phase-resolved spectra. By comparing the phase-folded waveform with that obtained from the Fourier method, we find that phase folding on the phase of the QPO fundamental frequency leads to a slight reduction in the contribution of the harmonic component. This suggests that the phase difference between QPO harmonics exhibits time variability. Phase-resolved spectral analysis reveals strong concurrent modulations of the spectral index and flux across the bright hard state. The modulation of the spectral index could potentially be explained by both the corona and jet precession models, with the latter requiring efficient acceleration within the jet. Furthermore, significant modulations in the reflection fraction are detected exclusively during the later stages of the bright hard state. These findings provide support for the geometric origin of LFQPOs and offer valuable insights into the evolution of the accretion geometry during the outburst in MAXI J1820+070.

We investigate systematically four outbursts of black hole system GX 339-4 observed by the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) in both spectral and timing domains and find that these outbursts have some common properties although they experience different 'q' tracks in the hardness-intensity diagram (HID). While the spectral indices are around 1.5 in low hard state (LHS), 2.4 in soft intermediate state (SIMS) and high soft state (HSS), the spectral parameters of thermal, non-thermal and reflection components vary significantly in transitions from LHS to HIMS. Also the quasi periodic oscillation (QPO) shows a peculiar behavior during the state transition between LHS and HIMS: the RMS drop of type C fundamental QPO is accompanied with showing-up of the second harmonic. Interestingly, the QPO RMS is found to have a similar linear relationship with the non-thermal fraction of emission in different outbursts. These findings provide more clues to our understanding the outburst of the black hole X-ray binary system.

We investigate the spin-period evolutions of recycled pulsars in binary accreting systems. Taking both the accretion induced field decay and spin-up into consideration, we calculate their spin-period evolutions influenced by the initial magnetic-field strengths, initial spin-periods and accretion rates, respectively. The results indicate that the minimum spin-period (or maximum spin frequency) of millisecond pulsar (MSP) is independent of the initial conditions and accretion rate when the neutron star (NS) accretes $\sim> 0.2\ms$. The accretion torque with the fastness parameter and gravitational wave (GW) radiation torque may be responsible for the formation of the minimum spin-period (maximum spin frequency). The fastest spin frequency (716 Hz) of MSP can be inferred to associate with a critical fastness parameter about $ω_{c}=0.55$. Furthermore, the comparisons with the observational data are presented in the field-period ($B-P$) diagram.

We derive a mean value of M = 1.46 +/- 0.30 solar masses. When the 46 NSs with measured spin periods are divided into two groups at 20 milliseconds, i.e., the millisecond pulsar (MSP) group and others, we find that their mass averages are, respectively, M=1.57 +/- 0.35 solar masses and M=1.37+/- 0.23 solar masses. In the framework of the pulsar recycling hypothesis, this suggests that an accretion of approximately 0.2 solar mass is sufficient to spin up a neutron star and place it in the millisecond pulsar group. An empirical relation between the accreting mass and MSP spin period is ΔM=0.43 (solar mass)(P/1 ms)^{-2/3}. UNlike the standard recycling process, if a MSP is formed by the accretion induced collapse (AIC) of a white dwarf with a mass less than Chandrasekha limit, e.g. 1.35 solar mass, then the binary MSPs involved in AICs is not be higher than 20%, which imposes a constraint on the AIC origin of MSPs.

With the possible detection of the fastest spinning nuclear-powered pulsar XTE J1739-285 of frequency 1122 Hz (0.8913 ms), it arouses us to constrain the mass and radius of its central compact object and to imply the stellar matter compositions: neutrons or quarks. Spun-up by the accreting materials to such a high rotating speed, the compact star should have either a small radius or short innermost stable circular orbit. By the empirical relation between the upper kHz quasi-periodic oscillation frequency and star spin frequency, a strong constraint on mass and radius is obtained as 1.51 solar masses and 10.9 km, which excludes most equations of states (EOSs) of normal neutrons and strongly hints the star promisingly to be a strange quark star. Furthermore, the star magnetic field is estimated to be about $4\times10^{7} (G) < B < 10^{9} (G) $, which reconciles with those of millisecond radio pulsars, revealing the clues of the evolution linkage of two types of astrophysical objects.

The updated data of kHz QPOs and spin frequencies are statistically analyzed. We found that when two simultaneous kHz QPOs are present in the power spectrum, the minimum frequency of upper kHz QPO is at least 1.3 times larger than the spin frequency, i.e. ν_{s}<ν_{2min}/1.3. We also found that the average kHz QPO peak separation in 6 Atoll sources anti-correlates with the spin frequency in the form \lan\dn\ran = -(0.19\pm0.05)\ns+(389.40\pm21.67)Hz. If we shifted this correlation in the direction of the peak separation by a factor of 1.5, this correlation matches the data points of the two accretion powered millisecond X-ray pulsars, SAX J1808.4-3658 and XTE J1807-294.

It is found that there exists an empirical linear relation between the high frequency $\nhigh$ and low frequency $\nlow$ of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) for black hole candidate (BHC), neutron star (NS) and white dwarf (WD) in the binary systems, which spans five orders of magnitude in frequency.
For the NS Z (Atoll) sources,
$ν_{high}$ and $ν_{low}$ are identified as the lower kHz QPO frequency and horizontal branch oscillations (HBOs) $\nh$ (broad noise components); for the black hole candidates and low-luminosity neutron stars, they are the QPOs and broad noise components at frequencies between 1 and 10 Hz; for WDs, they are the ``dwarf nova oscillations'' (DNOs) and QPOs of cataclysmic variables (CVs). To interpret this relation, our model ascribes $ν_{high}$ to the Alfvén wave oscillation frequency at a preferred radius and $ν_{low}$ to the same mechanism at another radius. Then, we can obtain $\nlow = 0.08
\nhigh$ and the relation between the upper kHz QPO frequency $\nt$ and HBO to be $\nh \simeq 56 ({\rm Hz}) (\nt/{\rm kHz})^{2}$, which are in accordance with the observed empirical relations. Furthermore, some implications of model are discussed, including why QPO frequencies of white dwarfs and neutron stars span five orders of magnitude in frequency. \\

In this paper, we improve the previous work on the MHD Alfven wave oscillation model for the neutron star (NS) kHz quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs), and compare the model with the updated twin kHz QPO data. For the 17 NS X-ray sources with the simultaneously detected twin kHz QPO frequencies, the stellar mass M and radius R constraints are given by means of the derived parameter A in the model, which is associated with the averaged mass density of star as ${\rm \lan ρ\ran = 3M/(4πR^{3}) \simeq 2.4\times 10^{14} (g/cm^{3}) (A/0.7)^{2}}$, and we also compare the M-R constraints with the star equations of states. Moreover, we also discuss the theoretical maximum kHz QPO frequency and maximum twin peak separation, and some expectations on SAX J1808.4-3658 are mentioned, such as its highest kHz QPO frequency $\sim$~870 (Hz), which is about 1.4-1.5 times less than those of the other known kHz QPO sources. The estimated magnetic fields for both Z sources (about Eddington accretion rate $\med$) and Atoll sources ($ 1% \med$) are approximately $10^9$ G and $10^8$ G respectively.
